  Apastamba biography
To write a biography of Apastamba is essentially impossible since nothing is known of him except that he was the author of a Sulbasutra which is certainly later than the Sulbasutra of Baudhayana.
We do not know Apastamba's dates accurately enough to even guess at a life span for him, which is why we have given the same approximate birth year as death year.
Apastamba was neither a mathematician in the sense that we would understand it today, nor a scribe who simply copied manuscripts like Ahmes.

The Srauta sutra of Apastamba belongs to the Taittiriya branch of the Krishna Yajurveda.
Sage Apastamba is believed to have lived in Andhra Pradesh around 5th Century B.C. The editor observes that the language and style of the work are similar to that of classical Sanskrit.
It is quite possible that ancient authors like Apastamba followed a grammatical system, which was different from that of Panini, with which South Indians are familiar.

Altar construction also led to the discovery of irrational numbers—a remarkable estimation of the square root of 2 is found in three of the sutras.

Reprint of first edition in 1896 Sudarasana Suri wrote a lucid commentary entitled 'Tatyparyadarshana' on the Apastamba Grhyasutras.
Kapardiswamin's commentary on the Apastamba Grhyasutra is no longer extant (although his interpretations of the sutra and points not treated in detail in the sutras are available as a collection of verses called the Kapardi Karikas).
According to the Kandanukramani, the Mantrapatha is an integral portion of the Taittiriya Veda (as 'Ekagnikanda') but currently, it forms two Prasnas between the Srautasutra and Grhyasutra of Apastamba.
