It continues along the ridge through patches of old growth and standing dead trees and climbs to open meadows and volcano scoured rock at the top of Ape Canyon, where it terminates at the junction with Loowit Trail #216.

I distinctly remember looking upslope in tall walking canyon passage 20’ H x 10’ W and enjoying how noticeably the ceiling and floor descended like a ramp down tube.
I saw lights ahead and first thought they were crawling in the tall canyon passage since their headlamps were so low to the ground.

btw, the voluteers at the rest stops and down in Smith Creek Canyon were all wonderful and I made sure to thank them for their time and support.
I was really suprised, kept waiting for the really steep part of ape canyon to show up, but it never did.

Got a phone message late monday night, all I could hear was "Ape Canyon" "ride" and "shiggy gave me your number".
Led them all up to Ape Canyon Trail # 234 where we got ready and the 3 of us bikers (Al on his Dean 29er SS, Colette on her RacerX gearie, and me on the reBrew) headed up the trail to a beautiful, and HOT climb to the Plains of Abraham.
Trail conditions were excellent as we had just had rain last weekend and the trail showed few signs of travel since then.
