Cancelled Apollo missions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apollo 8 was originally slated to be a D mission, flying the LM and CSM in Earth orbit.
During Skylab 3, a malfunction on the Apollo CSM docked to the station caused fears that the crew would not be able to return safely.
A modified Apollo CSM was prepared, with two crew spaces and three additional bunks crammed in beneath them; however, the problem was fixed without requiring a rescue flight, and the mission was stood down.

Apollo 18 (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apollo 18 is They Might Be Giants' fourth studio album, although it is the fifth disc in their discography.
It was released in 1992 and named after the Apollo missions, which ended at Apollo 17.
The album marked the first conscious effort by John Linnell and John Flansburgh to branch out of their early sound, opting for more traditional rock rhythms and fuller arrangements.

They Might Be Giants - Apollo 18 Review - sputnikmusic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-19)
This album features many odd sounding tracks and you can tell that the band is trying to experiment with their sound despite the fact that there music was always experimental to begin with.
Throughout the course of the album many instruments make their way into the music, and that is the reason that this album is so original and different.
Apollo 18 is a very experimental album, and is for those who want some nerd/rock mixed up with random silliness.

They Might Be Giants - Mink Car (Restless)
But in 1992, the Johns unleashed Apollo 18, still their crowning achievement: a monstrous masterpiece technically featuring eighteen songs, but with a singular centerpiece entitled “Fingertips” that actually embodied twenty different refrains, and therefore, twenty different track indexes.
Although none of the originals have appeared on albums, their appearances in concert, official MP3’s, and the Dial-a-Song service (the number of which is hidden on Mink Car's cover) have charted their evolution to where they can be found here.
The album’s strongest track, “Bangs,” can also be found in a previous form on TMBG’s collaboration with McSweeney’s literary journal, on which they recorded a song for nearly every article in the issue and included a CD in the back.

In Music We Trust - They Might Be Giants: The Spine
Most of their past work, particularly their best album, "Apollo 18" proved that these guys could still focus on their art on a song by song basis and still come up with cohesive wholes, even if none of the songs were related in any way beyond that most of them were really good.
Even their recent children's album, "No!" which is as much of a concept album as you could find is all over the place thematically.
Unlike their last "adult" album "Mink Car" which was plenty enjoyable but felt more like a collection of several years' worth of songs rather than a proper album, The Spine feels more like a single whole entity than any of their past albums.

 BERKLEE | Press Release
BOSTON, August 18, 2005 — Apollo Sunshine celebrates the release of their second full-length album, Apollo Sunshine (spinART in association with Heavy Rotation Records), with a CD release party at the Middle East Downstairs on Friday, September 9.
Apollo Sunshine's new self-titled album, out Sept. 13, is a joint release by spinART records and Berklee College of Music's student run label Heavy Rotation Records.
With one more guitarist, Apollo Sunshine are able to further augment their already unique approach to music, making them even more dynamic on stage - switching instruments, singing 3-part harmonies, and recreating the complex arrangements that were so carefully crafted on their debut album.

Though the album has been touted as one of They Might Be Giants more rock-oriented albums, The Spine doesn't really rock out any more than previous releases such as Apollo 18.
Indeed, the album has a few other similarities to Apollo 18: the short, snippet-like songs "Spine" and "Spines" (which finds the band subverting the tight, dry production style of contemporary R&B for their own warped purposes) feel a little bit like an update of Apollo 18's "Fingerprints" tracks.
Still, many of the album's high points are on the mellow side, such as Flansburgh's oddly poignant "The World Before Later On," a lament for the flying-car, food-pill future that we've been promised since the Jetsons and still hasn't arrived yet.

Apollo 18 - This Might Be A Wiki
Elvis Costello expressed interest in producing the album at the suggestion of the record company, but TMBG dismissed the idea and produced it themselves as originally planned.
The liner notes state that "The indexing of this disc is designed to complement the Shuffle Mode of modern CD players." This implies that the CD was meant to be listened to on Shuffle, so the Fingertips songs would be inserted throughout the CD as you listen to it.
The Fingertips tracks run together on track 17, and Space Suit is both track 18 (mislabeled as "Fingertips 2") and 38.

Fingertips - This Might Be A Wiki
According to the liner notes, Apollo 18 is "meant" to be listened to on shuffle, which means that the pieces of "Fingertips" get scattered among the other songs on the album when you listen to it.
On the UK version of the album, Fingertips is all one track instead of being divided into verses, so Brits are unable to experience this joy.
The title "Fingertips" may be a reference to The Residents' album "The Commercial Album", which included a track named Fingertips, and the album itself was a collection of 40 one-minute jingle-like song fragments.

Sadly, at least for those of us old enough to remember the heyday of the LP, APOLLO 18 is the first TMBG album not released on vinyl in the U.S. The first video from APOLLO 18, "The Statue Got Me High", debuted on MTV's 120 Minutes in February.
The point of the year is to emphasise that space is the last international frontier and all nations of this earth should join together in peaceful Space exploration-a message that John and John are only too happy to promote.
That's because APOLLO 18 is one of the first compact discs to take full advantage of the shuffle mode found on today's CD players.

Matador Records | Laura Cantrell Biography
As on her two previous albums, 'When the Roses Bloom Again' and 'Not the Tremblin' Kind,' Laura's own compositions are some of the highlights.
The album also includes a version of the Appalachian murder ballad "Poor Ellen Smith," which was collected and published in the 1927 book American Mountain Songs by Laura's great, great aunt Ethel Park Richardson, a "songcatcher" from Chattanooga, TN, who went on to produce the NBC radio drama "Heart-throbs of the Hills" throughout the 1930s.
Laura's debut album, 'Not the Tremblin' Kind,' reached an international audience and was championed by legendary BBC DJ John Peel, who called it "my favourite record of the last ten years and possibly my life." She recorded five Peel Sessions and had three songs on his annual "Festive Fifty" for 2000.

They Might Be Giants - Satan Stole My Teddybear
Admittedly this album took some time to really hook me after the immediacy of their debut but it was fully worth it.
On Apollo 18, TMBG was unable to keep up the total stamina of hyperclever music of Flood and upon first listen I was disappointed.
The tease of this album is that "Subliminal" and "Snailshell" start out the album in grand fashion, lulling the listener into a state of glee, thinking that this new sound and quality would last all through the album.

They Might Be Giants' fourth album, 'Apollo 18' is another excellent collection of songs, and was produced to coincide with the International Year of Space, 1992.
This album came out two years after Flood and Birdhouse in your soul gave TMBG their biggest hits in the UK (and by the sounds of their patter on the live gigs in the US as well - they claim they could play Birdhouse even if their brainstems were cut).
Sadly, it seems as if they were rushed into producing albums after that success, and Apollo 18 is not as consistently good as...

They Might Be Giants continue their strange journey through contemporary music, as they roundly filch from all and any sources to create something that's quaint and quirky.
The main feature of Apollo 18 is the 21-track "Fingertips Suite" which, when shuffled on a CD player, will interact and re-create itself depending on how it's programmed.
Perhaps not as strong as their last album, Flood, which contained the hit "Birdhouse in My Soul" [sic], Apollo 18 is never less than entertaining.

This is probably their most famous album, and includes songs such as Birdhouse in your Soul, Istanbul (not Constantinople), and Particle Man.
Musically, this album does not present a radical departure from what they represent but it is just an exploration of plateau space.
It is a reasonable continuation of Apollo 18, where the afccordion is diminished and rock is emphasised.

Cityzen.tv: Album Review- They Might Be Giants (The Spine)
It used to be that a new They Might Be Giants album was a promise of wonderment for us listeners.
For instance, take "Thunderbird" and "Au Contraire." Very clever, lyrically, but instead of spotlighting what the duo is known for in a new context, they sound very much like carbon copies of some of the work that TMBG did in the 1990s ("Till My Head Falls Off" and "Dinner Bell," specifically).
As a result, I'm a happy, self-righteous critic for a webzine, for I know that it is this honesty that has allowed, and continues to allow, TMBG to stand as one the strongest creative forces of any era.
