Apollo 4 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apollo 4 was the first unmanned flight of the Saturn V launch vehicle.
The first piece of the Apollo 4 to arrive at the Kennedy Space Center was the third stage.
Often this is attributed to the Apollo 11 mission, when in fact it was filmed on the flights of Apollo 4 and Apollo 6.

Apollo 6 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apollo 6, launched in April 1968, was the Apollo program's second and last unmanned test flight of its Saturn V launch vehicle.
Testing was slow as they were still checking out the launch vehicle for Apollo 4, a limitation of the system where there wasn't two of everyone and everything.
The problem in the ignitor fuel lines was not detected during ground testing because a stainless steel mesh covering the fuel line became saturated with liquid air due to the extreme cold of the liquid hydrogen flowing through it.

Apollo, who is a primary source of healing, transmitted his powers to his son Asclepius who in turn carried the art among men to such a great pitch that he not only prevented some from dying, but even raised up the dead.
Apollo loved Hymenaeus 2 and this distraction gave Hermes a chance to steal his brother's cattle; and he also loved Hyacinthus 1; but him the god involuntarily killed with the cast of a quoit, and in the place where his blood had stained the grass there sprang a flower.
Apollo is also held responsible for the death of Laocoon 2 (who threw his spear against the WOODEN HORSE) and his sons; for he sent snakes to kill his sons, and in trying to help them, Laocoon 2 was also killed.

 Apollo 13 Summary
To be sure, the Apollo 11 and 12 collections contained significant numbers of small rock fragments which differed markedly in composition from the bulk of the mare-derived materials; and there was every reason to believe that many of these "exotic" fragments represented ejecta from impacts in the distant highlands.
Even in the earliest days of Apollo, during 1962 when NASA was still trying to decide on a basic mission mode, proponents of lunar-orbit rendezvous had argued that, in certain circumstances, the LM engines could be used as backups in case of a Service Propulsion System failure.
Congressional support for Apollo had been weak for years and now there was a new President who was less than an ardent fan; and, while prediction of the political impact of serious accidents is far from an exact science, any accident was bound to raise questions about the credibility of NASA and its programs.

Project Apollo in general, and the flight of Apollo 11 in particular, should be viewed as a watershed in the nation's history.
Any assessment of Apollo that does not recognize the accomplishment of landing an American on the Moon and safely returning before the end of the 1960s is incomplete and innaccurate, for that was the primary goal of the undertaking.
Apollo 8 was critical to this fundamental change, for on its outward voyage, the crew focused a portable television camera on and for the first time humanity saw its home from afar, a tiny, lovely, and fragile "blue marble" hanging in the flness of space.

Boosting the Apollo vehicles to the Moon was the job of the giant Saturn V - the first launch vehicle large enough that it had to be assembled away from the lauch pad and transported there.
The Apollo program greatly increased the space and complexity of ground operations, both before the launch and during the misions, when ground controllers had to track two spacecraft at the same time.
By December 1968, Apollo 8 was ready to try for lunar orbit (on the Saturn V's third outing), and seven months later, Apollo 11 made the first lunar landing.

He discussed the crucial flights of the lunar module coming in the near future and predicted that it would be possible for astronauts to land on the moon about the middle of 1969.

 NASA Apollo Mission Apollo-1
Tragedy struck on the launch pad during a preflight test for Apollo 204 (AS-204), which was scheduled to be the first Apollo manned mission, and would have been launched on February 21, 1967.
In the spring of 1967, NASA's Associate Administrator for Manned Space Flight, Dr. George E. Mueller, announced that the mission originally scheduled for Grissom, White and Chaffee would be known as Apollo 1, and said that the first Saturn V launch, scheduled for November 1967, would be known as Apollo 4.
Known as AS-502, or Apollo 6, the flight was a success, though two first stage engines shut down prematurely, and the third stage engine failed to re-ignite after reaching orbit.

Despite the fire, John J. McClintock, chief of the Apollo office program control division, advocated in April 1967 that NASA negotiate a follow-on incentive contract, placing heaviest emphasis on flight performance and quality and less on schedules.
** Grissom's crew had received approval for an "Apollo 1" patch in June 1966, but as the time for the launch approached NASA Headquarters was leaning toward calling that mission "AS-204." After the accident, the widows asked that Apollo 1 be reserved for the flight their husbands would never make.
For a time, mission planners in Houston called the next scheduled launch "Apollo 2." In March 1967, Low wrote to Mueller, suggesting that, for historic purposes, the flights should be called "Apollo 1" (AS-204), "Apollo 1A" (AS-201), "Apollo 2" (AS-202), and "Apollo 3" (AS-203).
