Apollo Records was started in New York City in 1945 by Ike and Bess Berman, along with Hy Siegel and Sam Schneider, but it was known from the start that Bess was the power behind the label.
The final vocal group record for the historic label was #541 in early 1959 was "Handy Man" by The Sparks of Rhythm which made a small ripple.
The history of vocal groups on Apollo was spotty at best after its heyday in the early fifties, but it had enough successes to keep its finger on the pulse of the country, musically speaking.

From 1934 when the Apollo first introduced its world-famous Amateur Night which launched the careers of legendary artists like Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Michael Jackson, D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill, the Apollo has maintained its position as the nation's most popular arena for emerging and established fl and Latino performers.
Amateur Night was revived, and in 1985, the Apollo Theater celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a grand reopening gala and nationally broadcast television special Motown Salutes the Apollo.
Other signs of the Apollo's comeback are the strengthening of its community outreach programs such as the Free Films for Kids program, and concerts featuring the best of the Harlem artistic and cultural society were staged free of charge for the community.

The first four bytes of the record are a 32-bit integer containing the total number of bytes in the record (including both the data which the user wrote into the record and the 4-byte long record count itself).
The data in the record is followed by a second copy of the four byte long record count which occurred at the beginning of the record.
Thus, the record in the Alliant/Sun file is four bytes longer than the corresponding record on the Apollo even though the contents of the byte count on the Alliant/Sun is four less than the contents of the byte count on the Apollo.

Boston's Apollo Sunshine has been likened to the Flaming Lips, the Elephant 6 collective, the Kinks, Queen, They Might Be Giants, and Beck.
While Apollo Sunshine's music may be remniscent of any of these bands at any given moment, the strength of their debut album, Katonah, lies in a sound that is very much their own.
Apollo Sunshine is a trio: Jesse Gallagher (vocals, bass, keyboards), Sam Cohen (guitar, vocals, pedal steel), and Jeremy Black (drums/percussion), who met while attending college in Boston and are now in their early 20s.
