Apophis (Stargate) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apophis first appeared in the pilot episode "Children of the Gods" and was the show's main antagonist and the principal enemy of SG-1 for the first few seasons.
Apophis eventually managed to lead a rebellion on Ne'tu (on which SG-1 was also being held captive), during which he saved the life of Major Samantha Carter, only so he could torture her for information later.
Apophis attempted to seize SG-1's mothership with the aide of a captured and brainwashed Teal'c, but that ship was also taken over by the replicators, and Apophis could only watch helplessly as his remaining Jaffa were killed by the invading techno-bugs.

Apep - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
For the Stargate SG-1 character, see Apophis (Stargate).
In Egyptian mythology, Apep (also spelled Apepi, and Aapep, or Apophis in Greek) was an evil demon, the deification of darkness and chaos, and thus opponent of light and Ma'at (order/truth), whose existence was believed about from the Middle Kingdom onwards.
In an annual rite, called the Banishing of Apep, priests would build an effigy of Apep that was thought to contain all of the evil and darkness in Egypt, and burn it to protect everyone from Apep's influence for another year, in a similar manner to modern rituals such as Zozobra.

I've found that by far the biggest challenge of writing Stargate fan fiction is spelling.
Terms in the Latin, Cyrillic or Stargate alphabet are eligible for inclusion in the Repository; the main standard for inclusion is whether an ickle newbie writing her first fanfic would wonder how to spell the word.
Use of "effect" as a verb is restricted to antiquated and business English; it is not likely to come out of the mouth of an SGC member.
