  APOSTLE SIMON (PETER)
It is said that the apostle Peter was a slender person of a middle size inclining to tallness and that his complexion was pale, almost white.
Peter was called by the apostle Paul a "pillar" of the church and it was believed by the crowds, that the mere casting of his shadow upon the sick, was capable of bringing about miraculous healing.
Peter eventually went to Rome and while there, it is believed that Mark (the writer of the Gospel of Mark) served as his translator as he preached.

According to the New Testament, Jesus gave the Apostle Peter (whose given name was Simon) the nickname Rock (Kephas or Cephas in Aramaic; Petros or "bedros" (Greek) from which we get "bedrock").
Saint Peter, according to Catholic tradition, became the first bishop of Rome; Roman Catholics consider him to have been the first Pope and all subsequent Popes to have been his successors, and therefore sometimes refer to the Pope or the Papacy itself as Peter.

Keith Hunt - Peter - Head Apostle? - Page One
If Peter was the one given responsibility by Christ to feed the sheep of the church, including other apostles and elders, the one who was to be chief of instruction and the one with the primacy over theology, then someone sure missed the boat with Paul.
When Peter came to Antioch and behaved himself not according to the truth but against the truth that had been established by the whole church, Paul was swift to CORRECT him, and that before ALL (Gal.2:11-14).
Peter could have saved the church a whole lot of trouble much earlier if he had used his primacy authority, and taught and ruled for the church what the truth of the matter really was on this circumcision issue.

The Apostle Peter and Cephas   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Needless to say, if the Apostle Peter and the Cephas rebuked by St. Paul were not the same person, the polemical arguments of Protestants and Eastern Orthodox claiming that St. Paul's severe rebuke of St. Peter constituted a denial of Peter's Primacy of authority among the Apostles — fall by the wayside.
That Peter and the Cephas (of Antioch and Corinth) are two different personages needs to be seriously re-examined and not be testily dismissed as a "cockeyed theory" by a recent contributor to a "traditionalist" publication which only too often takes upon itself the role of a Paul castigating the present successor of Peter.
The assumption that Peter and Cephas were the same person is dependent upon the Antioch incident occurring after the Council of Jerusalem (with Peter strangely subverting the Council's decree for which he was largely instrumental in obtaining).

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles
The essential fact is that Peter died at Rome: this constitutes the historical foundation of the claim of the Bishops of Rome to the Apostolic Primacy of Peter.
Peter's residence and death in Rome are established beyond contention as historical facts by a series of distinct testimonies extending from the end of the first to the end of the second centuries, and issuing from several lands.
The date of Peter's death is thus not yet decided; the period between July, 64 (outbreak of the Neronian persecution), and the beginning of 68 (on 9 July Nero fled from Rome and committed suicide) must be left open for the date of his death.
