  Laestadianism in America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Laestadian church arrived in North America with Scandinavian (especially Finnish) immigrants in the latter half of the 19th century, many of whom arrived to work in the copper mines of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
As a result, Laestadian congregations separate from the extant Scandinavian Lutheran churches were formed in Cokato, Minnesota in 1872 and in Calumet, Michigan in 1873.
1928 - Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church of America schismed from FALC.

The Apostolic Lutheran Church of America is a church established by Finnish-Americans in the early 20th century.
In general, the ALCA accepts the creeds of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and put emphasis on the necessity of regeneration and the practical importance of absolution from sin.
It is one of the few Lutheran bodies in the world claiming to have apostolic succession back to Rome.

Lutheranism is generally friendly to the Ecumenical Movement, and with some exceptions, Lutheran churches have participated in worldwide gatherings of Christians across confessional and denominational boundaries.
This term, or "Lutheranism," is employed to refer to the doctrine and practices authoritative in the Lutheran Churches and as a broad term for those churches throughout the world in general.
Lutheranism did not radically change the structure of the medieval mass, but its use of vernacular language enhanced the importance of the sermons, which were based on the exposition of the Scriptures, and encouraged congregational participation in worship, especially through the singing of the liturgy and of hymns.

Lutheran underrepresentation in national politics might at first look like a simple function of ethnic timing: give Lutherans a few more years, would run the argument, and there might be the same sort of German- and Scandinavian-Lutheran presence in national politics as there has been for Irish Catholics.
But we probably have even more former Lutherans who testify that they had to leave the Lutheran church to be, in their words, "saved" or "born again," to find "a personal relationship with Jesus Christ," or to hear "the gospel." Most of these conversion stories are about individuals moving away from Lutheranism.
First, if Lutherans were to retain their traditions even as they discover ways of communicating them in America, they would be in an ideal position to show the benefits of a religious consciousness rooted in the past.
