Because this is the album that got me into FZ at the tender age of 11 years old.
"Apostrophe (')" is, in a way, an album in a genre of it's own - mainly for the highly individual compositions "St. Alfonzo" and "Father O'Blivion," but also much because of "Uncle Remus" with its feeling of soul and gospel that isn't much heard anywhere else in Zappa's discography.

Apostrophe (') - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apostrophe (') is an album by Frank Zappa, released on April 22, 1974 in both stereo and quadraphonic formats.
Continuing from the commercial breakthrough of Over-Nite Sensation (1973), this album is a similar mix of short songs showcasing Zappa's humor and musical arrangements.
At this point the album takes an unexpected turn and instead tells of rambunctious antics ("wheedled on the bingo cards in lieu of the latrine") and follows with a scenario in which a leprechaun "stroked it".

For the shows other than Halloween, the tune is essentially performed as it is on the album- a little rougher around the edges, obviously- with Frank solo only.
This holiday version of "Apostrophe" sounds somewhat different than the original, in that there appear to be more written parts.
It is essentially performed as on "Apostrophe", with Fowler going heavy on the bass after the main theme, and Frank and his solo carrying us through the remainder of the tune.

FRANK ZAPPA Apostrophe (') review by Cygnus X-2(Robert)
One of the more accessible albums in the Frank Zappa catalogue, Apostrophe was his first to go Gold, mainly due to the popularity of Don't Eat the Yellow Snow.
Zappa's solos on this album are arguably his fastest studio solos, and they are played wonderfully on a wah drenched guitar.
The sound on Apostrophe is muddled and has a bit of a bootleg feel to it, and the album is terribly short, only being 31 minutes long (hell, Utopia had a 30 minute song at the time this was released!).

The Daily Vault Album Reviews : Apostrophe
Apostrophe contained some of Zappa's best songwriting efforts to that point - and remains one of the "must-own" albums of his vast discography.
Likewise, the musicianship is flawless throughout this album, and it became a high-water mark that Zappa would find difficult to top.
The suite of songs that kicks off the album lets you know that Zappa is running on high octane fuel and is ready to light up the tires.

 Quadraphonic Over-Nite Sensation & Apostrophe (')
Listening to Apostrophe (') in quadraphonic and listening to the quadraphonic album in stereo were two unique opportunities to hear how differently, and successfully, the multitrack masters could be combined to create striking combinations of highly effective music.
Since there are well-known variances between the various Apostrophe (') CD releases, track lengths could be a first indication of which version, if any, the quad is derived from.
By the preponderance of evidence, we conclude that the 1995 Apostrophe (') is a variant of the quad edit.

Although this album contains performances by the same musicians as the previous one (plus a host of others), it is credited just to Zappa, not to the Mothers.
Maybe because, judging by the huge number of musicians who played at one point or another on this disc, the album was probably constructed from tracks that came out of a bunch of different projects that Zappa was working on.
Overall, the album continues the "really impressive pop music" trend from the last disc, with lyrics that are just as absurd, but less sexual.

Although this album contains performances by the same musicians as Zappa's previous album (Overnite Sensation), plus a host of others, it is credited just to Frank Zappa, not to the Mothers.
Apostrophe(') continues the "musically impressive pop" trend from the last album, with lyrics that are just as absurd, but less sex-obsessed.
A companion piece of sorts to Over-nite Sensation, the incredibly short (31:47) Apostrophe(') is a bit more jazzy, a bit more instrumentally-oriented and has less sexual content (though there is that part about leprechauns masturbating into a pancake batter).

Well probably this is the best album by ZAPPA, among his most accessible ones, and naturally thanks to this work you start appreciating his music within his accessible moments of such "classic rock"...
As is the case with most of Zappa albums, this one is unpredictable as any Zappa albums have never been the same in styles — it keeps changing — that’s why it’s called prog.
The highlight of the album is of course " Apostrophe' ", with Jack Bruce on bass and Jim gordon on Drums, this has to be one of the very best jams on record - ever, anywhere, by anybody.

Apostrophe made me into a happy little pumpkin boy when I was around sixteen and smelled like patchouli.
I know, Zappa was strongly opposed to that sort of thing, but this album seems to have been made expressly for puffing the herb.
The only way the fur trapper can get it fixed up is to go trudging across the tundra, mile after mile, right on down to the parish of St. Alfonso, where he finds a perverted scene with pancakes being made of Leprachaun semen.

Or was the band named Overlord and the name of the album Perpetual, and they just had to add an apostrophe to show that it was their album for some reason.
Oddly, one of the most genuine moments on the album comes with the brief closing acoustic piece “Melancholy.” It’s the one piece of music that sounds spontaneous, like Varras picked up an acoustic guitar and played it on the spot.
The rest of the album comes off sounding coldly calculated, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find that every single note was mapped before the band ever entered the studio.

 Frank Zappa - Apostrophe
Having proven his stellar musicianship on a series of instrumental-based solo albums, Frank Zappa is now returning to the musical satire on which his formidable reputation was built.
Seemingly the missing commercial element in Zappa's earlier career was in working with his own oddball group rather than the great studio stalwarts he is now recording with.
The most commercial album from this scrambled genius may not be his zenith, but his mediocre is better than many others' best.

The first half of the album is a sort of mini-concept album, relating the adventures of an Eskimo named Nanook, and the second half features such Zappa classics as "Cosmik Debris" and "Stink-Foot".
"Apostrophe," in its own words, "is an album of songs and stories set to music performed for your dining and dancing pleasure." The first four songs are about an Eskimo that almost makes sense, which makes this something of an actual concept album, at least for the first "side" of the record.
The lyrics are perhaps a dark shade of Zappa than you usually find, but it was 1974 and that could explain it right there since you should look for deep, hidden meanings in the songs of Frank Zappa, but just not in any conventional way.

John Guerin - Drum Solo Artist
Guerin worked with Frank Zappa on two main occasions: firstly on the Lumpy Gravy album, sharing drumming duties with Shelly Manne and Frank Capp, and secondly on sessions in the latter part of 1969.
Zappa probably extracted the drum track from something left over from Hot Rats and then recorded himself on vocals, guitars and bass, with George Duke on keyboards, probably in February 1974, when the finishing touches were put to the Apostrophe' album, according to Neil Slaven in Electric Don Quixote.
The Peggy Lee album Close Enough For Love (1979) is odd, but only in the sense that it features Ian Underwood, Max Bennett and John Guerin, and so should, perhaps, be subtitled Hot Rats Meet Peggy Lee.

As a composer Zappa had a love for both contemporary classical music and doo wop rock and roll to go along with guitar playing that was pure heavy rock.
