	Appin
		Appin (settlement 1810) is the oldest town in the Wollondilly, and one of the first villages in NSW.
		Appin's fortunes received a boost at the end of the 19th century with the building of the Cataract Dam: a large influx of workers and their families increased the population of the town (there were even two extra schools for a while).
		Appin is still sufficiently 'in the country' to retain its rural charm, and the presence nearby of thousands of hectares of national parklands, bushwalking trails, and the Cataract Dam make it a worthwhile stopover for the traveller.

		Half way along Appin Lodge Bay, near a marina (where boats are hireable- but personally don't recommend) there is a rocky outcrop, deeper water and mussels in abundance.
		Pass Appin Lodge on the A828 after the left & right hand "S" Bends, up the hill to the Castle viewpoint and then after descending the hill, traverse yet another left hand (90 degree) bend.
		It is not widely stocked with Sea Fishing Gear, in fact neither is the other one found at the other end of town, but the female member of staff is very friendly and really helpful in asking about locations to fish and I recommend a visit.

		Folk in Appin were well pleased and awaited the erection of speed limit signs with enthusiasm not least the local lady who pushes her invalid husband along that road in a wheel chair whiles dodging the timber lorries and tour buses - all travelling at high speed.
		The BEAR spokeperson, however, was quite upbeat and said that an engineer would be on his way to Appin very soon to inspect the speed limit signs and to take the fl plastic covers off to reveal them in their full glory.
		In the meantime I'd be glad if residents in Appin Ontario and Appin New South Wales would take a look out of their windows and email me if some strange British 40mph speed limit signs have appeared in their neighbourhood.
