Apple box - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The very first apple boxes were simple crates used in apple orchards, the modern variety should not be confused with the crates used in modern orchards as they vary in size up to a four-foot cube.
Because it is often out of frame, the apple box is used for raising, stabilizing, or leveling of props, scenery and actor in frame.
As it is not intended to appear in frame, an apple box is not considered a prop and is handled by a grip, rather than the Prop Master.

The release of the tiny, low-cost machine is seen as a good move for Apple which currently has a small share of the desktop computer market.
Apple expects the Mac mini to sell for £339 in the UK and $499 in the US.
Apple has traditionally done well in the market that the Mac mini is aimed at, said Mr Fogg, who also expected many PC makers to release copycat devices in reaction.

But back in my day, apple boxes were about 14 inches square on the ends and about 24 inches long, with heavy wooden ends and four slats of thin "box wood" for sides - two large ones on the sides and two small ones across the bottom.
Once the wheels were located, the basic ingredients were an apple box, a piece of 1 x 10 about 5 feet long, and two pieces of 2 x 4 about 3 feet long.
A Band-Aid box, a tobacco can or a Monkey Paw tire-repair-kit box nailed to the rear bulkhead of the apple box was a glove compartment.

DRM chip in Apple's Intel box worries developers - Builder UK
Apple fans are upset over a security chip found in a special x86-based PowerMac—a chip designed to prevent people from loading the company's new Intel-based OS onto non-Apple machines.
During the announcement back in June, Apple said its machines would not support other operating systems outside of the Mac OSX, but the company also said it would not be able to prevent underlying software from Microsoft or a Linux distribution from being installed.
A representative with Apple did say that the computers shipped to developers are the same as the one Apple CEO Steve Jobs used during a demo onstage at the company's developer conference in June.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been adamant that a consistent price is important to help consumers understand the new world of online music.
Though most have also experimented with putting together their own suggested playlists for potential consumers, the addition of the digital box set is likely to set off a race to bundle new collections and compilations that are unavailable elsewhere, online or off.
Apple executives said Universal Music, U2's record label, had worked closely with the computer company in creating the package.

"This is the kind of cardboard box Mac users have been looking forward to seeing their Macs in for years," said one source.
Apple only recommends removing plastic bags and cable ties which can be a choking hazard, and soaking the box in a solution of hypochlorous acid to remove the exterior laminate which, as every Mac user knows, is highly toxic and should never come in contact with the eyes, mouth, ears, nose or genitals.

At least the techie readers of Engadget, free of the Apple mind-meld, recognize the V-iPod as a deliberately crippled by copy protection, low-res, underpowered video appliance that is merely Apple's first try in the emerging market of video players.
The inordinate amount of attention paid to Apple's launches must be, in part, a function of the company's skill at throwing media events, stoking the rumor mills, and seducing the consuming masses.
It was Apple's good luck to develop and improve its player during the period that Sony, the previous king of portable entertainment, acted like a music company eager to discourage the spread of MP3s rather than a hardware company keen on developing the replacement for the Walkman.
