Topic: Apprehension

Apprehension - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Simple apprehension or conception can neither be true nor false." This distinction provides for the large class of mental acts in which we are simply aware of, or "take in" a number of familiar objects, about which we in general make no judgment, unless our attention is suddenly called by a new feature.
Professor Stout further investigates the phenomena of apprehension, and comes to the conclusion that "it is possible to distinguish and identify a whole without apprehending any of its constituent details." On the other hand, there is an expectation that such details will, as it were, emerge into consciousness.
Hence, he describes such apprehension as "implicit," and in so far as the implicit apprehension determines the order of such emergence, he describes it as "schematic".

To these examples may be added the fact that one can fully understand an argument in all its bearings without in any way judging its validity.
Without going into the question fully, it may be pointed out that the distinction between judgment and apprehension is relative.
With this result may be compared Kant's theory of apprehension as a synthetic act (the "synthesis of apprehension") by which the sensory elements of a perception are subjected to the formal conditions of time and space.

If an employee miscounted the apprehension forms, the employee's next logical step would be to correct the number on the tally form, not to destroy some of the underlying documents to make the number of forms agree with the figure on the tally form.

Philosophy of Apprehension   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Apprehension maintains that, when we consider the matter clearly, this gradation of ends, and consequently Aristotle's science of ethics, is impossible, and lacking foundation.
According to apprehension, each of these theories is essentially non-sensical, since it describes reality itself as a particular species of thing: it is ideas, it is physical matter, it is both ideas and physical matter, it is a dream.
Above all else, a proper understanding of apprehension is checked by the predominance of certain inherited philosophical concepts which exist as a ground from which all genuinely new philosophies are criticized by the majority of living philosophers.

20th WCP: The Formality of Reality: Xavier Zubiri's Critique of Hume's Analysis of Causality
As the culmination of British empiricism, Hume's work is especially important because he realized the importance of analyzing human apprehension both as a step in the development of a comprehensive philosophy, and in connection with the problem of causality.
Zubiri's point of departure for describing primordial apprehension is the immediacy and sense of direct contact with reality that we experience in our perception of the world; the things we perceive: colors, sounds, sights, are real in an extremely fundamental sense that cannot be overridden by subsequent reasoning or analysis.
For example, if a piece of green paper is apprehended in primordial apprehension, one has indeed apprehended green; but knowing that it is green requires knowledge of colors and a comparison of this newly apprehended color with known colors and their names from prior apprehensions.
