The ruins consist of an apsidal structure built of laterite slabs within, which towards the apse-end is a circular wall.
The oblong space in front of the circular wall is enclosed by walls, raised on the paved surface within the framework of the apsidal structure, to form an oblong chamber.
Towards the base of the apsidal wall are two arc-like buttress-walls built of three rows of laterite blocks placed on edge and supporting one another.

  Apse Chapel
The common source of the ambulatory and radiating chapels seems to have been the church of St. Martin of Tours, where originally there was a choir of two bays, and an apse of five bays, surrounded by a single ambulatory and five radiating chapels.
Each apsidal chapel could be treated as a sanctuary, to be entered only by the officiating, priest and his attendants, and the ambulatory served as the necessary nave for the worshippers.
No ambulatory with tangential chapels is older than about A. The peri-apsidal plan of Westminster Abbey, commenced in 1050 by Edward the Confessor, anticipated Cluny by thirty-nine years, a plan which was reproduced at Gloucester in 1089 and at Norwich in 1096.

This makes apsidal monitoring an excellent project for areas where there are seldom long stretches of clear weather, such as the East US.

Excavation of Area 3 was finally completed, revealing an apsidal basin built in opus caementicium The basin is lined with brick, waterproofed with a thick layer of cocciopesto and revetted with white marble slabs, fragments of which are still in situ with bronze pins fastening them to the structure.
A limited sounding around the plinth in Area 4 uncovered 30 cm of a distinct linear feature aligned with the east side of the plinth, suggesting that other structures related to this earlier phase are preserved on the earthen floor at the base of the Area 4 plinth.
This phase is well represented by the wall which invades the northeast corner and center of the apsidal basin, obliterating the structure with its stone foundations, which rest directly on the basin floor.

Nevertheless, despite some doubts due to the difficulty to check all the terms involved, Equation 20 by Giménez and García-Pelayo (1983) has been confirmed to be free of misprints and, as claimed, was found to be accurate to the fifth power of the eccentricity.

The average rate of apsidal (or perihelion) precession is 12 arc-seconds (1/300°) per year, or 108,000 years for a complete rotation,
Using the figure of 50" for the precession of the equinoxes and 12" for apsidal motion, the combined movement is equal to 62" (62/3600°) a year, or 20,903.226 years for a complete cycle.
These two periodicities, along with the 41,000-year obliquity cycle and the 100,000-year eccentricity cycle, are said to have been confirmed by the discovery of similar periodicities in studies of the Pleistocene climate record.

In multiple-planet systems, there is also a tendency for near-alignment of the arguments of periapse of two planets, and secular apsidal resonance is strongly indicated in one case, Upsilon Andromedae.
Apsidal resonance is the phenomenon of phase-locking of the apsidal longitudes of two orbits, such that the two planets have a common average rate of apsidal precession and the angular difference of their apsidal longitudes librates around 0.
We describe a dynamical mechanism for establishing apsidal resonance in a pair of planets that are initially on nearly circular orbits.

This paper argues against the current view that the apsidal form was Buddhist in origin and that apsidal Hindu temples are essentially Buddhist shrines subsequently converted to Hinduism.
Instead, the paper establishes that the apsidal form was part of a common architectural vocabulary widely used from the second century bc onwards not only for the Buddhist shrine, but also for the Hindu temple and several local and regional cults.
Finally, the paper highlights the archaeological excavations conducted at the apsidal temple of Gudimallam also in Andhra to trace the history of the religious site from the second century bc to the twelfth century ad, the objective being to highlight the changing nature of the Hindu temple.

In order to construct the apse on top of the rectangular room, the lower part of the apse was interwoven with a vault that covered Room XLVI and thus formed the base for the mosaic on the upper floor (Room L).
