Most Khuzestani Arabs are bilingual, speaking Arabic as their mother tongue, and Persian as a second language.
During the Umayyad period, large groups of Arab nomads from the Hanifa, Tamim, and Abd al-Qays tribes crossed the Persian Gulf and occupied some of the richest Basran territories around Ahvaz and in Fars during the second Islamic civil war in 661-665/680-684 A.D.(see Encyclopaedia Iranica, p.215, under Arab Tribes of Iran).

As the lion's share of the original 1920 Mandate of Palestine was handed over to Arab nationalism in 1922 with the creation of what would later be renamed Jordan, a more than just partition of the land favoring the Arabs had already been completed between the two nationalisms competing for it.
They rejected the 1947 division of the remaining 20% of the land left after purely Arab Jordan was created from the rest of it in 1922 because, in Arab eyes, there is no justice other than their own.
Arabs already got the lion's share of justice in the partition of the original 1920 borders of Palestine.

Praising the Iranian Arabs as “soldiers of the Islamic Revolution“ long before the victory of the revolution in 1979, he said, “That attitude is definitely alive among the Iranian Arabs,“ IRNA reported.
The defense minister noted that recent incidents in Khuzestan were quite insignificant and many factors gave rise to their occurrence, “but before adopting any decision to boycott Al Jazeera or close its offices in Iran permanently, we need to solve our own cultural obstacles and problems“.
