Arachnids are a class (Arachnida) of joint-legged invertebrate animals in the subphylum Chelicerata.
Arachnids are found throughout the world in nearly every habitat, but they reach their greatest size and diversity in warm arid and tropical regions.
However, most arachnids are harmless and contribute to the balance of nature by controlling the populations of the insects they prey on or the plants, reptiles, birds, or mammals that serve as their hosts.

Arachnid is pure B-movie horror stock, and would have been perfectly at home during the time of the giant bug epics of the late 1950s.
Their mission is put in jeopardy at the outset when their plane crash lands on the island, amidst some mysterious electrical disturbances, and of course this leaves us with a healthy set of potential victims, with plenty of ammo for the weird alien spider creatures that lurk in the jungle.
For laughs, there are more than a couple of Predator-influenced moments in Arachnid, from the Bill Duke-inspired character of Bear, to the aliens shimmery invisibility, to the abundance of scenes featuring automatic weapons being fired wantonly into the jungle.

Spider Myths: In other words, an arachnid
"Arachnid" is just a fancy name for spider.
Scorpions, harvestmen, ticks, and in fact all arachnids - not just spiders - have four pairs of legs (see illustrations above).
Also, notice that I said "four pairs" instead of "eight." The number of leg pairs (one pair per leg-bearing segment) is more significant than individual legs, which can be lost.

Arachnid has modern quantities of (relatively tame) gore and profanity, and liberally borrows from more modern movies like Predator (heavily armed military types against a mysterious alien monster in the jungle) and Aliens (tough female hero with a personal grudge against the monster), but at its heart, it’s a ‘50s monster movie.
Arachnid’s cast is entirely appropriate for its B-movie roots — not “good,” necessarily, but appropriate.
While Arachnid isn’t a classic of the genre, it should be fun for anyone who can appreciate the slightly cheesy taste that only a big monster can provide.
