A little further reading on the matter reveals the A/C was an Arado 196 used for sweeping the access lanes into the ports you mentioned.
I recall in a passage taken from one of IJN veterans' autobiography and translated by Hiroyuki-san, an Ar 196 used and evaluated by the Japanese was mentioned.

The Arado Ar 234 was a German jet reconnaissance-bomber, in service from 1944.
In October 1940, before anyone in Britain had even thought of ordering a jet of any kind for combat duty, engineers at the Arado Flugzeugwerke had been asked to prepare studies for a jet reconnaissance aircraft.
Such aircraft need the greatest possible speed and altitude, so that they can escape interception, and the Ar 234 took shape in 1941 as the first aircraft ever designed to fly faster and higher than any opponents, over enemy territory, on the power of jet engines.

I'm about half-done with the Ar 196 cockpits but they are on hold due to lack of references.
One other thought-I have a book (Warplanes of the Luftwaffe, page 10) which features a superb perspective cut- away line drawing of the Arado 196- all interior structures are shown including the front and rear cockpits.
Sure, recon missions are boring, but add in a pair of 50kg bombs and go submarine hunting or attacking shore installations, or use the pair of 20mms to fend off fighter attacks or hunt other recon aircraft, and now you've got some gameplay.
