Pothier felt that foreign investment was essential for Woonsocket to continue its industrial growth.
Pothier served two terms as Mayor and then turned his attention to state politics in 1897 when he was elected to Lieutenant Governor.
Pothier returned to statewide politics in 1908 when he was elected to his first term as Governor.

 Franco-Belgian Industrialists
These mills, including the Guerin Mills, Lafayette Worsted, French Worsted and Riverside Worsted, were owned by foreign born industrialists who were convinced to set up operations in Woonsocket by Aram Pothier.
With Aram Pothier's help, Guerin set up the first large scale, "foreign" spinning plant in Woonsocket, the Guerin Spinning Company, in 1895.
Guerin died in 1923 and is buried in the Pothier Mausoleum in the Precious Blood Cemetery.

She was the widow of Dr. Aubrey J. Pothier and daughter of the late Timothy J. and Mary Ann (Driscoll) Sullivan.

While one Dr. Pothier was marking his retirement after more than 34 years in the medical field, another Dr. Pothier was embarking on his own career in medicine, continuing a family legacy that began more than a century ago.
In July, Dr. Aubrey Pothier Jr., an internist, closed his longtime practice at 52 Brigham St. in New Bedford, just as his son, Dr. Jahn Pothier, an internist with specialties in pulmonary and critical care medicine, joined Hawthorn Medical Associates of North Dartmouth and New Bedford.
Jahn Pothier, 34, a graduate of Georgetown Medical School like his father and the oldest of three siblings, says his father played a role in his decision to become a doctor, but he never felt any pressure to continue the family tradition.

The Levys’ photographs and biography were unveiled on the wall of the high school’s lobby near those of 20 other area notables, including Edwin G. O’Connor, David J. McKenna, John T. Godfrey, Charles Leo "Gabby" Hartnett, Clem Labine, Bill Belisle, Gov. Aram J. Pothier, and Napoleon Lajoie, to name a few.
The Woonsocket Hall of Fame was established in 1983 to honor the accomplishments of Rhode Islanders.
Last year’s inductee was the late Walter J. Fontaine, who designed many buildings in Woonsocket.
