In an otherwise well written appreciation of Aravinda de Silva on his retirement chronologically documenting his accomplishments and the tremendous respect he commands in international cricketing circles as well as in life, Mennon had gone on to sully his contribution about Aravinda with his apathetic interjection as though he is an authority on greatness.
Aravinda's greatness lies not only in his cricketing prowess but in his personality and how he deals with adversity as attested by almost everyone who knows him and has played with him and the gentle wisdom he always displays is an axiom of greatness hardly displayed by the likes of others.
Aravinda was as capable of patting a full toss back to the bowler as he was of hitting a length ball for six.

De Silva's recall to the one-day team in August after more than a year on the sidelines has coincided with a swift turnaround in form for Sri Lanka, who had previously managed just one win from six matches in a triangular series against England and India.

Pinnaduwage Aravinda de Silva (born 17 October 1965 in Colombo) was a Sri Lankan cricketer, and is considered one of the finest batsmen ever produced by the country.
During the early part of his career de Silva was known as a dashing, if inconsistent, stroke-maker, but a successful season playing first-class cricket for the English county Kent in 1995 marked a turning point in his career.
De Silva had the distinction of scoring a double century in his final Test innings and picking up a wicket with his final delivery in Test cricket (against Bangladesh in 2002), and he retired - with a place in cricket's history secure - from all international cricket after the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

The infrastructure of Sri Lankan cricket has indeed been emboldened and mettled by players such as Aravinda and Arjuna amongst a host of other greats and it saddens the cricketing world that Aravinda is not being given the opportunity to prove his class to its fullest.
Aravinda de Silva is special, a class act and must be given his rightful place in A Hall Of Fame type recognition for his contributions to Sri Lankan cricket and should not be ignominiously dumped!
