	Arbuckle Mountains - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
		Geologically the Arbuckles are an elongate anticline structure with an orientation or strike of west-northwest.
		The west trending structure of the Arbuckles and the parallel trending Wichita Mountains is at almost right angle to the regional tectonic trend of the mid-Paleozoic structure from the Ouachitas south to the Marathon Uplift.
		The Arbuckles are thought to have originated along a failed rift or aulacogen in the Precambrian basement which was uplifted and folded during the Ouachita Orogeny.

		Arbuckle Dam is an earthfill structure, having a structural height of 150 feet and a crest length of 1,900 feet.
		After completion of Arbuckle Dam in June 1966, the Lake of the Arbuckles filled to the top of active conservation capacity for the first time on May 12, 1968, and flood control operations began.
		The Arbuckle Mountains are the highest part of a large area of Precambrian granites and overlying sedimentary strata that were uplifted and deformed some 300 million years ago.

		Oklahoma’s Arbuckle Mountains are an ancient mountain range in the south-central part of the state that is studied by geologists and students from around the world.
		The Arbuckle Mountains range is approximately 35 miles east-to-west and 10-15 miles north-to-south, with the main part of the range located in northern Carter County and southern Murray County, roughly 15 miles north of Ardmore and 5 miles south of Davis.
