Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits marks the PS2 debut for the long-running RPG series.
Arc the Lad's main action takes place from an angled top down perspective that stays consistent whether you are in the heat of battle or walking around.
Overall, Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is a smartly designed and surprisingly accessible RPG that should satisfy both hardcore and casual fans of the genre.

Arc the Lad II is undoubtably the crown jewel of Working Designs' Arc the Lad Collection.
The graphics in Arc the Lad II, as in the first, are 2D sprites on 2D backgrounds.
At the end of the day, Arc the Lad II is an outstanding game, marred only by a soundtrack stretched a bit too thin, and a final battle that takes quite a ludicrous amount of time.

IGN: Arc the Lad Collection Review
Arc the Lad Collection is a nobly-intentioned piece of work, though, and the most likely knock against it -- the anachronistic nature of its market positioning -- is really missing the point.
In the same way, Arc the Lad's finer points endure, even if one could come up with a really good joke juxtaposing a screenshot of Arc with a screenshot of Final Fantasy X and underlining the pair with their respective release dates.
Arc the Lad II This, presumably, is what the original Arc would have been with a little more time and development muscle behind it.

Arc the Lad Collection -- PSX --  Five Stars
Arc the Lad is a strategy RPG, which means that battles work in a way similar to Final Fantasy Tactics or Working Designs’ other excellent title, Vanguard Bandits.
Arc the Lad is not quite a typical example of a strategy RPG because it does allow for free movement sometimes.
If it were a standalone title, Arc the Lad I would be docked for brevity, but as part of a four game series, it provides the perfect entry into the world of Arc the Lad.

The scenario of ATL: Twilight of the Spirits reflects this; you're introduced to the young Kharg, a teenager who lives in a peaceful village and practices swordplay with his mentor, Lloyd.
The Deimos city where he finds himself is clearly built on the ruins of the civilization of the previous Arc the Lad games, though little remains but the bombed-out shell of those times.
Arc the Lad is a series of tactical RPGs, but in truth they're extremely light on the actual strategy.

Working Designs Arc the Lad Reviews
Arc 3 is better than Arc 1 for sure, but it's a bit of a letdown after Arc 2 (much like FF8 was for fans of FF7.) Still, it's a great game and follows much the same path, with even better graphics and effects.
Where Arc 1 is a simple introduction to strategic fighting, Arc 2 adds excellent depth, such as Elemental alignments, the ability to power up spells and skills and cast them at one of 3 levels, custom weapons, monsters as party members, and a 5 member limit on party size in a fight.
Arc 1 and 2 looked like they could have done great on the SNES, the world maps in Arc 2 reminded me of the world maps in Chrono Trigger (one of the greatest of all time RPGs) and the games were easy on the eyes, with smooth animations and believable hits.

 GameSpy.com - Review
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is a not really a direct sequel to the Arc the Lad games released in collection format late in the original PlayStation's life span.
Musically, Arc is a big shock -- it's probably the only aspect of the game that handily defeats most of the rest of the genre.
Arc the Lad, then, is a workmanlike project that offers up a well-rounded but unremarkable experience when taken as a whole.

The Armchair Empire - Playstation 2 Reviews: Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
Strangely, despite Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits (TotS) being anything but innovative, it has an interesting charm and still manages to be quite fun, making it a worthwhile title to check out for RPG fans looking for a new title to keep themselves busy over the summer.
The story in TotS is surprisingly engaging, chronicling the adventures of two adventurers from two different worlds that are merely looking to bring peace to their lands (and who also happen to be brothers separated when they were babies).

Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is the latest installment in the long-running Arc the Lad series and the first to appear on the PlayStation 2.
Perhaps you'll also remember that even though Arc the Lad seemed like an ideal candidate for a prompt North American localization, the original game and its two sequels remained firmly rooted on the other side of the Pacific until 2001, when the series finally saw American release in the form of Arc the Lad Collection.

DailyGame Review: Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits [PS2]
As their follow-up to this great title, Sony recently released Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits (ToS), which is a completely different game but dispels any doubt that Sony is taking RPGs seriously.
While the gameplay in ToS might not be as unique as that of other titles in the genre, the narrative elements combined with the great graphics make for a fantastically enjoyable adventure.
ToS bears only a loose affiliation with the earlier titles in the Arc the Lad series, taking place in the same world as its predecessors, but reshaping that world into a shattered mix of industrial future and medieval fantasy.

IGN: Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits Review
It's almost fitting actually, as Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits isn't quite as grandiose or boisterous as several of this year's other "save the world"-type scenarios; but rather, finds itself to be a quiet, subtly emotional throwback to and era when these types of adventures didn't take themselves so seriously.
Should returning gamers expect to take over the reigns of Arc, Liza, Shu, or several of the other popular characters from previous titles, they're sorely mistaken; Twilight of the Spirits takes place hundreds of years after the events of Arc the Lad III.
But as you can probably imagine, it's a twist with implications that take Arc the Lad's plotline to places you wouldn't expect.
