Overall, while combat is enjoyable in the third Arc the Lad, there's little excuse as why it is not in the first two installments.
The Arc the Lads have never contributed much to the evolution of tactical RPGs, save for relatively simpler controls, data importation from one game to the next, and the Wanted Monsters present in the second and third installments.

Arc II is the reason why I picked it up also, I would ahve just jumped right to Arc II, but I wnat to be able to carry over my exp etc to the second game so I'm playing through the first game.
Arc II is basically the reason to get the collection, Arc 1 takes about 10 hours to beat, that is if you rush through the whole game, and Arc II is estimated at 70 hours to beat, but the game is very cool and worth having.
Arc Arena is apparently something that goes with Arc II where you load your Arc II data onto the game and battle monsters for Exp and prizes that you can use during your ARc II game, although I haven't tried it out yet.

Arc Arena is a monster battling game in which you use your captured monsters from Arc II (via an imported save file) to battle against other creatures in tournament play.
Arc III is easily the best looking of all the games in the collection, and that's fitting, given that this game came out a good three years after Arc II.
Arc I has a small number of highly repetitive tunes that get really old, really fast; Arc II recycles some of the same music while adding new tunes and themes that manage to be catchy; and Arc III has a good variety of sound, though sometimes, during character conversations, tunes will change several times.
