Publishers reject many manuscripts because they are unsuitable from a literary or business point of view; we appeal to Arcade to reject Abu Daoud's book because it is morally unsuitable, in a civilized society, to help a killer profit from his crime.

 PEN American Center - Treasury Department Changes Regulations to Permit Authors in Sanctioned Countries to Publish
In September 2004, publishing trade groups and authors' organizations filed suit in federal court to strike down regulations of the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control that effectively bar U.S. publishers from publishing books and journal articles originating in countries such as Iran, Cuba and Sudan that are subject to U.S. trade embargoes.
The AAUP (www.aaupnet.org) counts among its members 111 nonprofit scholarly publishers affiliated with research universities, scholarly societies, research institutions and museums located in 43 states.

Since the effect of these OFAC regulations became clear late in 2003, publishers, authors, and public interest groups have pursued a number of paths to making OFAC enforcement consistent with the protection for "information and informational materials" mandated by Congress in the Berman Amendment and the Free Trade In Ideas Amendment.

That it succeeded as social commentary and a landmark in the vanquishing of censorship laws, not to mention being a smash for its various publishers (it is, still, a VERY FUNNY book) is a testament to the spot-on cultural acuity and careful artistry of authors Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg.
