ARCH ENEMY had already gained considerable media attention and underground acclaim for their three previous full-length albums before last year’s Wages Of Sin burst on the scene.
By the end of 2002, ARCH ENEMY were back in Europe playing headlining shows in several countries before heading back to Japan to take a major slot at the Beast Feast festival alongside Slayer, Hatebreed, Soulfly and Motörhead, just to mention a few.
Currently, ARCH ENEMY are presenting the new material at several high profile festivals throughout Europe (Download, Rock Hard, Fields Of Rock, Graspop, Tuska, etc.) and will perform as support act for the mighty Iron Maiden in Norway at the beginning of July, before sparking off a massive touring schedule worldwide with the album’s release.

Arch Enemy is NOT death metal anymore and should not be jammed into that niche.
Arch Enemy combines all aspects of metal to fit their musical vision and they execute with tremendous force and conviction.
Arch Enemy is a fist in the air and a big middle finger to all the generic MTV-Metal bands out there that think they have to subscribe to the generic Ozzfest formula to sell records and be considered “metal” by the trained monkeys that make up most of today’s metal audience.

Through the verses, Arch Enemy absolutely shred (Particularly Erlandsson’s drumming performance), but the chorus simply slows things down too much, and is quite predictable (Especially in the lyrical content) and too melodic by Arch Enemy standards.
Many will argue that Gossow is to blame for Arch Enemy’s drop in quality (And there’s some merit there in regards to the lyrical content), but Amott too must also take his share of criticism (What’s with the rather dull, slow and unexciting music that makes up half of Doomsday Machine?).
Somewhere deep inside Arch Enemy’s vast collection of songs, there’s the possibility of the band producing a real classic, but the trouble is they just haven’t figured out their strengths from their weaknesses in song terms.

Arch Enemy, the Swedish ‘supergroup’ comprising of Michael Amott on lead guitar, his brother Christopher also on lead (they both play rhythm too), Sharlee D’Angelo on bass, Daniel Erlandson on drums, and Angela Gossow on vocals have a lot to live up with this release.
Their 2001 release ‘Wages of Sin’ is one of the finest death metal albums ever laid down - blistering guitar shredding, healthily fat bass lines, aggressive drumming and a dark and moody vocal style blew every other release of that year away.
Yes, Arch Enemy have progressed (no, not ‘prog’ressed) with their sound and technically these guys are still one of the most amazing groups I’ve eve heard, but the production highlights weak lyrics and takes something away from the mood that was so well captured on ‘Wages of Sin’.
