 NABS - Natural Arch Formation
As stated in the definition of what natural arches are, they are formed by the natural, selective removal of rock.
When a vertical joint is present near, and parallel to, a cliff, e.g., as a result of stress relief exfoliation, its expansion may couple with other processes, e.g., wall collapse or cavity merger, to form various types of natural arches.
Differential erosion contributes to the formation of natural arches in several ways, e.g., the undercutting of harder layers of rock that are supported by softer layers.

For overfilled arches made of precast construction, the incorporation of the required height of the sides or sidewalls of the arch result either in a tall-standing precast element which is difficult and unwieldy to transport and to place or in the requirement of pedestals, such as pedestals F1a shown in FIG.

 Arch Summary
Arches were used extensively in bridge construction, with stone arches used during the Roman Empire and again in Europe from medieval times to the present.
Arches were used by the Harappan, Egyptian, Babylonian, Greek and Assyrian civilizations for underground structures such as drains and vaults, but the ancient Romans were the first to use them widely above ground although it is thought that Romans learned it from the Etruscans.
A special form of the arch is the triumphal arch, usually built to celebrate a victory in war.

ArchitectureWeek - Tools - Parametric Propagation of Form - 2001.0919
Because of the asymmetrical geometry of platforms, the center pin was moved to one side, allowing the arch to rise steeply on the west side to clear the structural envelope of the train, with a more gentle incline over the platforms on the east.
The arched roof of the train shed follows the curve of the railway, and increases in span down the length of the station to accommodate the increase in the width of the platforms.
Rather than model each arch separately, therefore, a single parametric model of an arch was modeled, such that it encoded the underlying design rules for the whole family of arches.

This arch beam, as we will call it, looks something like a channel beam where a large prtion of the material of the beam is taken away from the center axis, therefy increasing the radius of gyration (r).
For a true parabolic arch to be successful, the load path must be within the center or "middle third" of the arch in relation to both its width and depth.

 Types and Formation of Arches
Many large arches seen in western states represent another variation of the alcove enlargement arch, the meander arch, which forms when a river enlarges alcoves on both sides of a narrow fin of rock blocking the neck of a meander.
VERTICAL CREVICE ENLARGEMENT--This arch type differs from breached alcove arches in that the opening of the arch is formed by the widening of a vertical crevice perpendicular to the cliff rather than a horizontal bedding plane or layer of weak rock to form an alcove.
The ragged, irregular form and deeply pitted surface of Spring Creek Arch are typical of this type.

 Pedag T-Form Metatarsal Arch Supports
The Pedag T-Form is a “stick-on” metatarsal arch support that lacks an adjoining insole (like the Pedag Lady or Queen) and gives the wearer the maximum positioning freedom to put the support right where it’s needed most.
Other metatarsal arch supports such as the Pedag “Lady” or “Queen” are designed with the metatarsal arch incorporated into the body of a ¾ length insole.
The insole is there to make placing the metatarsal arch in the shoe easier but it can also limit the positioning possibilities and occasionally the metatarsal support won’t hit the right place on the arch.
