During these digs, the young members of the Association carried out regular and systematic excavations under the scientific direction of the Archaeological Superintendency of Calabria, and brought to light the “pars rustica” of the villa (the working section and slave quarters, as opposed to the master's quarters).
Along with its research activities, the Association has always pursued the objective of instituting an Archaeological Museum in the city, in which to protect, save, and display, along with the so-called “Leone collection,” all the material recovered over many years of exploration in the territory.
This project, which began in 1994, thanks to an understanding between the Archaeological Superintendency of Calabria and the Community Administration of Lamezia, and brokered by the Archaeological Association, was realized in July 1997 with the inauguration of the Lamezian Archaeological Museum, with its seat in an ancient building on Via Garibaldi in Nicastro.

Civilization.ca - Scholars - Archaeological Discovery in Organic Terrain in Canada
Although reported artifacts and archaeological deposits from organic terrain are relatively rare, the association of archaeological sites with organic terrain is more frequently recorded in regional site databases, but one suspects that proximity is probably under-reported, particularly in regions where blanket peat, marshland, sloughs, or muskeg are ubiquitous.
A similar pattern of archaeological site occurrence on prominent (but low relief) land forms in close proximity to wet lands and organic terrain was noted during an archaeological resource inventory of Elk Island National Park, in the Beaver Hills near Edmonton, Alberta.
Of particular interest to the subject of archaeological association with peat and organic terrain, it was observed that stream density of 1st through 4th order creeks and marsh/swamp/wetland density of hunter-gatherer were often significantly higher than a representative 'random' location.
