One of the archaeological monuments of this period is a burial mound near the remains of an ancient farmer's dwelling discovered on the Qujayli's bank 500 m north of Lake Zamanbobo's shore.
Evidence from excavations of such settlements in Kanimekh, the Navoi Region, and in Varahsha seem to indicate that the northern and northwestern territories of the Bukhara oasis (the Kanimekh and Vabkentdarya lower reaches) were eventually inhabited.

This year's Archaeological campaign at Umm al-Rasas was centred on the northern and southern flanks of the Church of St. Paul which church had been excavated during the campaigns of 1995-1996.
The eastern courtyard was partially excavated (not to block the entrance to the ruins from the east) and so we did not reach the eastern perimeter wall of the area.
The excavation was also extended to the area located behind the apse of the Chapel, it showed the presence of a quadrilateral room with four pairs of pilasters surmounted by reused imposts (though similar typologically) plastered to show homogeneity.

 Archaeological Excavations of the Islamic Period in Ras al Khaimah   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-18)
Archaeological remains from a second of these Persian camps are eroding out of the sand cliffs on the Gulf just below the site of the Landmark Hotel located to the south of the town of Ras al Khaimah.
The excavations show that the town underwent a period of expansion in the late 16th and especially in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The excavations further showed that the original settlement of Ras al Khaimah located at the end of the sand spit was founded on an oblong dune of sand which rose to a maximum height of three meters above sea level.

As the earliest known urban settlement south of the Sahara, Jenne-jeno is one of the very few World Heritage archaeological sites recognized by UNESCO in sub-saharan Africa.
He began excavating at Jenné-jeno in 1977 with his wife, Susan, and returned with her for a second major field season in 1980-1981.
Mary E. Clark is a graduate student at Southern Methodist University working towards her Ph.D. She began her research in Jenné in1994 and has returned this year to carry out a second season of dissertation fieldwork.

A test sondage was made into one of the mounds, as well as some surface clearance in order to clarify the nature of the walls and layout of the structure.
An initial hypothesis was that an apsidal shaped building was in actual fact a "church", as its size and dimensions were at first glance very similar to the example excavated by ADIAS on the island of Sir Bani Yas.

The ‘Excavations Standards Manual’ was published by DOE at 4 pm on Thursday 12 April 2001 in the Atrium, DOE headquarters, Clarence Court, Adelaide Street, Belfast.
The Manual provides best practice guidance on acquiring an excavation licence (which is a legal requirement in Northern Ireland), the organisation and management of an archaeological excavation, the recording of archaeological data,the processing of excavated material (including artifacts, environmental samples and human remains), and the preparation and publication of reports.
The impetus behind the creation of the Manual has been the increase in the number of archaeological excavations required to meet policy-based planning conditions for development projects: in 1994, 2 of the 31 excavations carried out were developer-funded and in 2000, 47 of the 65 excavations carried out were developer-funded.
