The archdiocese dates back to the Vicariate Apostolic of Laos, which was established on May 4, 1899, responsible for all of northeast Thailand and the modern-day Laos.
The seat of the vicariate was at Ban Nonseng, Nakhon Phanom Province.

The Boston archdiocese also announced May 25 plans to close 65 parishes, nearly one-fifth of the parishes in the archdiocese and perhaps the largest single closing of churches in American Catholic history.
O'Malley said he hopes to use the bicentennial of the Boston archdiocese in 2008 as an opportunity to "call people to spiritual renewal." To prepare for that, he said, he is currently working to set up a diocesan pastoral council.

Father Prasert Trakavesama, from Bangkok Archdiocese's Education Department, told UCA News that he does not agree with people who say it is better for students who engage in casual sex to practice "safe sex." This suggestion would only "encourage student promiscuity," the priest said.
