On the loth of July the archduke was summoned to Vienna to take supreme command of the forces which were being collected to defend the capital, but peace was made before further hostilities took place.
Amongst the military works of the Archduke Albert may be named Uber die Verantwortlichkeit im Kriege (a work which created a great sensation, and was translated into English and French), Gedanken iiber dem Militdrgeist, Uber die hohere Leitung im Kriege, and Kritische Betrachtungen Uber den Feldzug 1866 in Italien.
Albert never visited the Holy Land, but he appears to have had a considerable amount of intercourse with returned crusaders, and to have had access to valuable correspondence.

Archduke Charles married, in 1815, Princess Henrietta of Nassau-Weilburg (1797–1829).
He had five sons, the eldest of whom, the Archduke Albert became one of the most celebrated generals in Europe, and two daughters, the elder of which, Maria Theresa (1816–1867) married Ferdinando II, King of the Two Sicilies.
