Archibald McKellar, one of Clayton County's prominent farmers, was born in County Lanark, Scotland, Dec. 24, 1832.
One child was born of this union--Duncan, of Richardson County, Neb.
Archibald received his early education in his native country, coming to this county with his father in 1848.

 Leader of the Opposition (Ontario) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ontario's first Leader of the Opposition was Edward Blake of the Ontario Liberal Party who held the position from 1869 until 1871 when he became Premier of Ontario (Archibald McKellar had previously led the Liberal Party in the legislature for two years, but was not formally recognized as opposition leader).
Archibald McKellar (Liberal) 1867-1869 was not formally recognized as opposition leader, but led the Liberal Party in the legislature.
From 1930, the Liberal Party was led by Mitchell Hepburn, but Sinclair continued as Leader of the Opposition as Hepburn did not seek a seat in the legislature until the 1934 general election which made him Premier.

The township is named after the Honourable Archibald McKellar who held office in the first legislative assembly of Ontario from 1867 to 1875.
McKellar Township was incorporated in the spring of 1873 under a special act of the Ontario Legislature granting Municipal Institution in unorganized districts without connection with any County Council.
McKellar village was surveyed into village lots and the streets were given names.

 Archibald McKellar
McKELLAR, Archibald, Canadian member of parliament, born in Glenshire, Argyleshire, Scotland, 3 February, 1816.
Archibald was educated at Geneva, New York, and at the high-school in Niagara, and afterward engaged in farming and lumbering.
He had been a member of the Kent county council for fifteen years, when, in 1857, he was elected to parliament for that constituency, and he continued its representative till 1867, when he was elected to the provincial parliament for Bothwell, which he represented in 1867-'75.
