Elva Cars - The Archie Scott Brown memorial fund
Archie Scott Brown was a remarkable man. He had film star looks, and was fiercely competitive, fun to be with, adored by everyone, and severely disabled.
Archie raced from 1951 to 1958 when, while in the lead in the Belgian Sports Car Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on 18 May 1958, he came off a wet track in his Lister-Jaguar, which somersaulted into straw bales and burst into flames.
To do so in an exacting sport like motor racing is nothing short of miraculous.

Archie was orphaned at an early age and spent many years at the orphanage in Fort Yukon where he made numerous lifelong friends and conversed fluently in Gwich'in.
Archie's humor, kindness and generosity was a welcome respite from all the chaos and uncertainty of this life; he spoke with a clarity and straightforwardness past all pretense and piousness.
Following the funeral service, Archie will be flown to Beaver where final services will be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.

A brief history of Elva Cars and the Courier
Archie Scott-Brown had introduced Frank Nichols to a young ex-graduate called Peter Nott and, with the financial support of a distributor from the States, Frank and Peter designed the Courier with a ladder frame type chassis.
Having produced a series of sports racers and formula junior cars, many of which were extremely successful in the States, it was suggested that Elva Engineering should produce a road-going 'sports racer' and the prototype Elva Courier was built in early 1958.
It had to be a sports car that was relatively simple to manufacture, be competitive on the track, and easy to maintain or repair.

Carolyn Scott Brown with contributions from Dr. Barbara Levy did an excellent job of answering questions on a topic that our mothers are reluctant to discuss and/or cannot answer.
An easy skim which serves as a decent reminder of the importance of SCM.

The first car Grand Prix was held in1925 and the track was consistently improved over the years and eventually finished at 8.76 miles long.

If Peter's enthusiasm for the sport can be blamed on one person it could well be Archie Scott-Brown.
Although disabled Scott-Brown was one of Britain's finest drivers and made his name in the world of sports car racing.
Lunch breaks were often spent investigating the other activities that took place on the local airfield, amongst them the testing of racing cars.

 1958 NZGP
At the top of the list was a diminutive Englishman, Archie Scott-Brown, who had compiled an impressive record in sports-racing events since 1955 driving the Lister-Jaguar.
Though handicapped by an almost useless right arm, Scott-Brown had won many events in open company with the battered green Lister, fitted for the Auckland race with the newly-developed 3.8-litre D-type Jaguar motor.
The door was wide open, as proved in the race itself.

 Tee Scott
Andre Scott was a good friend of mine whom I'd met through Larry Patterson and all them, and Andre used to run the Clubhouse down in D.C. So I played there, and in Baltimore, and I got invited to play at L'Uomo out in Detroit.
But then, this was Tee Scott playing, a New York legend himself on the turntables...
And although the event would go well into the wee hours, the deejay's choice of music throughout the evening was impeccable: these were the basslines, riffs and loops of Giorgio Moroder 's "Evolution," Danny Tenaglia's "Harmonica Track," Junior Vasquez's "Dub Break," Philly, Salsoul, and other gems both old and new.
