		The archmage of the world of Ursula K Leguin's Earthsea is a fairly typical example of an archmage, in that he is the head of a college of wizards, a primus inter pares or "first among peers".
		Tolkien's Middle-earth novels is also an archmage, though he is never referred to by that title; however, as the head of the order of wizards (as Gandalf describes him), he seems to occupy the place of an archmage in Middle-earth.
		In the DC Universe, The Archmage was a being of magic imprisoned at the heart of Zerox, the Sorcerer's Planet.

	Wizards Community - Archmage Unfair
		The Archmage is very vulnerable to having to deal with a lot of fodder, especially reasonably tough fodder that the rest of his warband can't auto-kill.
		The Archmage is also vulnerable to a warband that packs a large number of speed 8+ minis that hit hard or are tough.
		I also think that the archmage is in the wrong faction, if it was LE for example, I'd have a lot less problem with it (blasting from a distance is one of their things/spells/special abilities, right?), but comboed with the IM, it seems a little bit more over the top.

		Archmage is originally from RM2 rules (RMC I supplement)and it's a pure spell user of the 3 realm with costs doubled 2* for spells instead of 1*.
		Even with the later Arcane Companion though there was no equivalent to the RM2 Archmage, even though Arcane magic is meant to consist of elements of all three realms (it's described as the first magic from which later the single realms were derived of).
		Having played an Archmage (in RM2) I can say it really should just not be allowed, however if you are going to allow it, do what my GM did, make the player pick two base lists from each of the standard realms, and make sure they are thematically related.

	Stormcryer's Tanking Tri-Elementalist - The Archmage Revealed - Diablo 2 Forums
		I have proven its viablity with hours of in-game play (Questing, MFing andrushing) and although it doesn't kill as fast as a single elemental cookie cutter, it is, in my opinion, a more well rounded, and enjoyable build for PVM against single/dual immunes and act bosses.
		This was not apparent in 1.09, but with the increase of monster resilience (more damage needed to kill, imunities, etc) sorc "tank" builds are not really "tanks" as much as they are "armored cars", better defenses than a non block build, but certainly not as strong as a pure tank sorc from 1.09.
		There's not too many of us Archmage builders out there so hearing from someone who actuallt builds them vs the other that just cry "it won't work" is very helpful to finalizing the build.
