Ard Fheis condemns the worlds drug companies and western governments in their refusal to reduce the cost of drugs and treatment for HIV/AIDS, which should be made freely available to help ease the suffering of those millions who suffer from the escalating HIV/AIDS crisis in the Third world.
Ard Fheis formally recognises that the present system of government is undemocratic in the sense that it represents the interests of a tiny minority of the population, the landed classes and big business.

The Sinn Féin Ard Fheis has passed an emergency motion, put forward by the party's Ard Comhairle, urging those involved in the murder of Robert McCartney to admit their role and to make themselves accountable in court.
Ahead of the Ard Fheis, the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, said it would not be the end of the world if Sinn Féin does not use the opportunity to address the crucial issues facing it.

 The Militant - 5/25/98 -- Sinn Fein Meeting Marked By Resolve To Intensify Fight For A Free Ireland
The Ard Fheis overwhelmingly endorsed the leadership proposal to cast a Yes vote in the May 22 referenda in the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland on the "Northern Ireland Agreement." The agreement was negotiated in talks that included Sinn Fein earlier this year but has not been signed by the nationalist party.
Through six hours of debate at the Ard Fheis, more than 60 delegates presented their views and the conclusions of the discussion on the agreement in their local areas.
At the conclusion of the Ard Fheis, there was a huge vote in favor of the proposals advanced by the leadership, with 331 of the 350 delegates endorsing their course.

It was in the interests of Ireland getting exact particulars of that Constitution without any possibility whatever of the change of a comma afterwards by anybody in or outside of Ireland—in the interests of the Irish people —that agreement was made in the Ard Fheis and that I bring this forward now.
