Arda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arda was part of Eä, the universe of all which exists.
Arda was created, together with the rest of Eä, through the Music of the Ainur for the Children of Ilúvatar (that is, Elves and Men).
Arda Marred is the name given to the world as it is: the world after the wars of the Valar and Melkor, and the dispersing of Melkor's fëa in the entire world.

 Arda - Tolkien Gateway
Arda (Q: Realm) was the Quenya name for the world as a whole, containing the continental masses of Middle-earth and Aman in particular.
Arda is linguistically a derivation from the Valarin word for the same subject, Aþâraphelûn.
Arda was first brought into existence with the Music of the Ainur, for the purpose of creating a home for the Children of Ilúvatar.

 Quenta Silmarillion
The initial shape of Arda, chosen by the Valar, was of a symmetrical continent lit by two lamps: one in the continent's north, and one in the south.
Arda was again darkened, and the lamps' fall spoiled the perfect symmetry of Arda's surface.
Before Melkor was taken captive, Arda witnessed the awakening of Elves, the first-born Children of Ilùvatar.

 TolkienWiki: Arda
Arda was sung by the Ainur and materialised with Ea by Ilúvatar, intended to be the dwelling palce of the Children, wholly tempered, flat, round and symmetrical.
This however was marred by the malice of Melkor and the struggles between the Valar.
Arda is the Quenya name of the World, with its atmosphere and the celestial objects.

Ultimately, Melkor and his followers descended in magnificent fashion into Arda, and attacked and destroyed the Two Lamps (precursors to the Two Trees and the Sun and Moon).
In the process, Arda was plunged into darkness, and Almaren, the first home of the Valar on Earth, was destroyed.
The Silmarillion as published might seem to lean toward the earlier conceptions of Melkor's power; there is less discussion of Melkor/Morgoth's marring of all Arda by diluting himself throughout it.

Middle-earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The history of Middle-earth is divided into several Ages: The Hobbit and the main text of The Lord of the Rings deal exclusively with events toward the end of the Third Age and conclude at the dawn of the Fourth Age, while The Silmarillion deals mainly with the First Age.
The world (Arda) was originally flat but was made round near the end of the Second Age by Eru Ilúvatar, the Creator.
Arda began as a single flat world, which the Valar gave light to through two immense lamps.

The use of arda in this sense is said to be derived from Valarin Atharaphelun, which means "appointed dwelling" (which of course is exactly what Arda is to the Valar).

Melkor/Arda Marred or Remade - War of the Ring Community
I was always under the impression that Melkor was the evil guy, that wanted to conquer all of Arda for himself, and that he deviated from his original purpose that was for him to be the Master architect of Arda.
Certainly, in the making of Arda, if Melkor would have added his power in harmony with the other Valar, it would have been a better Arda for sure, yet he became evil and moved from his Valar brethren.
If our point of view, is that the creation ended with Arda Marred, then yes, Melkor did fail in his purpose, but if the creation ended with Arda Remade, then Melkor did the will of Ilúvater perfectly.

The Valacirca are the ultimate weapon of the Valar in Middle Earth, bringing both their light and justice to the dark places and peoples of Arda, as well as guarding the places already favored by the light.
Founded by Rangers from the Northwest Area of Arda who had found favor in the eyes of Galadriel, the Valacirca quickly evolved into a community of tree-dwellers of all noble professions and races united to spread the Light of Justice to all those in Darkness.
The Valacirca remains the essence of the Wisdom and Might of the Valar, and represents the true Arda of the time before the Darkness of Morgoth, forever shining as an example for all of Arda to see and follow with joy.

But Arda Healed will not be the same as Arda Unmarred; all the good intended will be fulfilled, but all the good things that came forth in Arda Marred will also be included.
Arda was at first meant to be a quite other place than it became, for Iluvatar had planned how he wanted it in his thoughts.

If Arda really was the product of the Music of the Ainu, then it was Marred at the moment of its creation and has always had evil in it.
I think that the Unmarring of Arda will require the ultimate destruction of Melkor and his works, not necessarily stripping the Children of Iluvatar of their free will.

If he was of Arda, like Elves, Men, Ents and the like, then he was tainted by the marring of Arda.
My point about the Marring, in the post already given in meaningful parenthesis, only becomes truly valid when you make the simple mental realization that Tom, if he were Eä, would not simply be marred to the degree other inhabitants are, but incorporate all Marring and the Marrer itself.
To me, this suggests that he is not marred, since the Ring works by appealing to the evil, ie marred, side of those with whom it comes in contact.

It seems that, in the first beginnings of the World, the four mightiest spirits came down into it; Manwë, Ulmo and Aulë to prepare it for the coming of the Children of Ilúvatar, and Melkor to claim it for his own domain.
Like the Elves, those Valar who chose to enter the World at its beginning are bound to it until it reaches its destined end; they may not return to the Timeless Halls of Ilúvatar.
In the distant beginnings of the World, there were fifteen Valar; Melkor was certainly the most powerful of the all the spirits that descended into Arda, and was said to have been the 'brother' of Manwë.
