When Ardent Records was launched in Memphis in 1972, it was Cargoe who label owners/producers/engineers John Fry and Terry Manning thought were going to put Ardent Records on the map, NOT Big Star.

This, and other of his songs, was recorded in his home garage studio (on Album Avenue!) It was apparent that there was no extended future in music in El Paso, so by 1963, Terry (and Bobby) had decided to move on.
Ardent was just moving from the garage of owner John Fry to its first "professional" location on National Street.
Ardent quickly assumed a reputation as being on the cutting-edge of the then-new multi-track technology, and many Stax Records artists, Hi Records artists, as well as R & B, blues and rock groups from New Orleans, Muscle Shoals, Nashville, and the surrounding South, came to use their services.

During the 1990s, Ardent retooled its label toward Christian rock with the AandR help of Dana Key, whose local group, DeGarmo and Key, was one of the first acts to bring meaningful visibility to the fledgling format in the '70s.
