The final itself was a game played with the intensity of a championship game, with Ardrahan surviving a late challenge by the home team to hold out for a two-point victory and to win for the first time the Paddy Kelly Memorial trophy.
Again the tables were turned, and very much against the odds Ardrahan surprised their neighbours to qualify for the final against Sarsfields.
Ardrahan were unlucky on the day and the blitz was eventually won by Beagh on scoring averages.

Ardrahan, a charming village on the N18, with a wide market square and cross, still retains much of its rural charm, despite the passing traffic.
The O’Heynes, or Hynes, Lords of Aidhne, had their stronghold here in ancient times and, with the help of other Irish clans, inflicted a terrible defeat on the Normans in 1225, a feat still recalled in that rousing song, The West’s Awake.
However, in 1236, Richard de Burgo, after successfully conquering County Galway, granted Ardrahan to Maurice Fitzgerald who built a stone castle, the ruins of which lie just north of the village.

Made with vegetarian rennet and pasteurized cow's milk from the family's herd, Ardrahan is a washed-rind cheese, meaning that the wheels are repeatedly brushed with brine to provide the moist, salty surface that encourages Brevibacterium linens to grow.
The dairy makes Ardrahan wheels in two sizes: the smaller is about 8 ounces and the larger is about 2 pounds.
In either size, Ardrahan will have a semisoft, creamy, butter-colored paste that seems thick and a little sticky on the tongue.
