We aim to dissuade, on animal welfare grounds, Ards Borough Council from granting a lease to Ards Football Club allowing for the construction and operation of a greyhound-racing track in Newtownards, Co. Down, Northern Ireland.
Ards Borough Council have now (early March 2006) withdrawn their offer to lease land to Ards Football Club, with the result that it is now extremely unlikely that a greyhound track will be built in Newtownards.
Under the proposed terms of a lease to Ards Football Club, Ards Borough Council envisages allowing a portion of its land at Newtownards (Co. Down, Northern Ireland) to be used for the construction of a football stadium which would also house a greyhound-racing track.

I have been particularly conscious of the strong representations from Ards Borough Council that the wastewater from Bangor should be treated in North Down Borough Council’s area and not transferred to the Ards area for treatment.
Ards Borough Council went to considerable expense to employ consultants to consider the 14 sites that he referred to in the document.
According to the hon Gentleman, Ards Borough Council does not want wastewater from the Bangor area, but it is quite happy to get water from other parts of County Down, and that shows that declaring Unilateral declaration of independance (UDI) in Ards is not the answer.
