The Executive Director of the Fund, Sevag Ardzruni, noted that the revitalization of Shushi is beyond the capabilities of Armenia and Artsakh and must therefore become a pan-Armenian effort, else it would not succeed.
The topic of repopulating Shushi was also discussed, noting statistics that show a decline in population of some 3,000 in the past 10 years.
Ardzruni is also the chairperson of the Yerkir organization, which seeks to populate the border regions of Armenia.

The Ardzruni, who replaced the latter, made Van one of the main cities of Vaspurakan.
Later in the 10C, Gagik Ardzruni, king of Vaspuran, took refuge many times here and built a palace and the Holy Cross Church.
The latter, which is well preserved, has facades ornemented with beautiful reliefs depicting scenes from the Bible, Armenian king Gagik, animals and vine.

The 5th-century history of Moses of Khorni contains practically all that is known of pre-Christian Armenia, its folklore and epics.
Later historians include Thomas Ardzruni (10th cent.), Matthew of Edessa, who described the Crusades, and Stephanos Orbelian, who wrote of the Mongol hordes (13th cent.).
A tradition of nationalistic epic poetry, influenced by Muslim form, emerged; the best-known example is David of Sassoun.

 Khachkars - Page 4
Beginning in the second half of the 9th century, as the Arab caliphate weakened, political power was restored to Armenia with the founding of new kingdoms: The Bagratuni in Ani (North and central Armenia), the Ardzruni in Vaspurikan (Western Armenia), and the kingdom of Kars and the Dzagikian Dynasty in Siunik.
From the 9th century, the cities of Armenia (Ani, Lori, Kars, Kapan and Van) began to flourish.
The facade is bound with a border formed from non-repeating geometric rosettes, and the entire design was sometimes crowned with an original cornice under which thematic portraits were carved showing the Annunciation, John the Baptist, the Madonna, angles, apostles and saints, even the picture of the Khachkar donor.

The Armenian chronicler Thovma Ardzruni competently reports the important building work accomplished by Derenik and his son Gagik, kings of Vaspurakan.
Of all those buildings there remains but the church of Surp Khach (Holy Cross), erected between 915 and 921 by the outstanding architect, sculptor, and painter, Manuel, under the patronage of King Gagik Ardzruni.
This is one of the finest jewels of Armenian architecture, and that is why it has received the special attention of both Armenian and foreign academics.
