		Area code 917 is a New York City telephone area code; it is the standard cellular/pager/voicemail phone area code for all of the city's boroughs and is an overlay to 212, 347, 646 and 718.
		Although 917 was originally established as a service-specific area code available in all of the five boroughs, it is now most commonly associated with the borough of Manhattan.
		In Manhattan, however, area code 646 is beginning to overtake this role, as is likewise the case with area code 347 in the outer boroughs.
