Arena (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arena is a live album by Duran Duran, originally released worldwide in 1984 (see 1984 in music), and reissued with two bonus tracks in 2004, (see 2004 in music).
The album featured most of the band's big hits in a live environment, as well as some album tracks from Rio (1982) and Seven and the Ragged Tiger (1983), and a new studio track "The Wild Boys" produced by Nile Rodgers, who has previously remixed the single "The Reflex".
Arena would be the only full-length live Duran Duran release until the 2003 Encore Series of official bootleg recordings from shows in Japan and the West Coast of the USA.

Arena (An Absurd Notion) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arena (An Absurd Notion) is a concept concert video filmed during the course of Duran Duran's 1984 Sing Blue Silver North American Tour.
Instead of releasing a straight concert video, Duran Duran and director Russell Mulcahy thought it might be fun to play around with the origins of the band's name (the 1968 film Barbarella), and added a storyline and some surreal elements that are woven around and through the footage of the band playing on stage.
The DVD for Arena was released in April 2004 and includes as an extra The Making Of Arena behind the scenes documentary.

Tina Arena - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arena's career began at the age of seven when she was selected as a regular performer for the music television program Young Talent Time.
Arena's career was said to be a priority of record executive Tommy Mottola who envisioned her achieving the level of success of Céline Dion or Mariah Carey, but the album failed to sell well in the US, and Mottola moved on to other projects.
Arena's duet album with fellow Young Talent Time member John Bowles, titled Tiny Tina and Little John and originally released in the mid 1970s, was reissued on CD in 1998 to capitalise on her success.

UKMIX - Reviews - Tina Arena - Just Me
Track-by-track, Arena pours out the pain she has struggled with through the break-up, and writes so directly from the heart that at times the songs can even be described as brutally honest.
Arena, however, never one to be pigeon-holed into a specific style or market, refused to settle for anything less than experimentation on the new album, and the result a pristine collection of tracks.
Arena, after being subjected to the French chilled underground music moods, has managed to come away with a fresh new sound that is sure to impress.

Only occasionally does the Arena voice strain for a note and shrill out, mostly it oozes class and sheer talent. What it asks of the listener though is another thing.
But it is an indulgence and a reasonably obviously marketing and career ploy that pushes Arena into a much smaller space than she should occupy and only shows half the picture at best.
On "In Deep" Tina Arena is in love (personal, family, friends), drowning in emotion, floating when she should be splashing, treading water.

Rites Of Spring Festival - ARENA
Typical for the album are the short instrumental interludes (the Crying For Help-series) that separate the non-instrumental tracks; a format that returns on their next album.
However, Arena do not grieve for very long and introduce two excellent replacements: Paul Wrightson as the new singer, and John Jowitt (well-known for his contributions to both IQ and Jadis) on bass.
Arena will work on their next album, so there will be much more to come...

DPRP CD Reviews - 2000 - Arena : Immortal? Roundtable Review
Nonetheless, this is one of the stronger songs on the album, and a strong opener, and probably a good posing opportunity for the band when it's played live.
Arena also manage to pull off a short and simple 5/4 section, despite spending the vast majority of the album languishing in safe 4/4 territory.
Rhythmically the majority of the album is predictable and basic, and although there is often rich layering of sound, it seems to be mostly based around simple minor chords with nothing new to offer.

ARENA Pepper's Ghost reviews and MP3
I love Arena, I really think they are one of the best comtemporary prog bands, but I really hope they look for other alternatives to grow, to make their music more inventive, challenging and distinctive.
As a huge fan of Arena and, fortunately, having in my possession all of their albums, this piece of work is just another masterpiece by a band that, in my opinion, are unequalled in their genre.
It seems they've got their line-up straightened out, where the first couple of albums the line-up seemed to change with the drop of a hat, this is already the third studio album with the same line-up, so kuddo's to them.

One of the strengths of the album is the often seamless way the tracks flow into each other, giving you the feeling that you are listening to a one hour epic instead of an album with 16 tracks.
This is the second album of Carrie and Doug Melbourne, after their excellent debut Indian Ocean, which was released in 1999.
Oddities on the album are the groovy Deep Deep Deep, which is released as first single, and available for download from their Website, and Clandestine, which is the heaviest track on the album, with pounding drums and a roaring guitar solo courtesy of Manir Donaghue.

Arena’s new work is not only a worthy successor to “Contagion,” but the most powerful and varied album in the band’s history.
Arena's journey commenced in 1995 with the album Songs from the Lions Cage.
The new boy had no problem convincing the most die-hard Arena fans that he was the man for the job, when he made his debut during a fan club convention in Holland in May 1999.

The album has an expansive and slightly heavier feel than the previous albums, but personally I feel it is better for it and shows how the band is still developing it's style.
The album is subtitled "7 stories of Mystery and Imagination" on the front sleeve and therein lies the concept behind the album, drawn out in cartoon strip within the CD booklet.
Though Arena are often tagged as a neo-prog outfit, whatever that means nowadays, on this evidence they are out on their own, producing a distinctive heavy symphonic rock.

After having success with previous Arena's alboms - I've ordered this album without hearing anote from it and I must say that when I did, it was one of those moments when you pray to God you have ears and a powerfull Stereo system.
It’s a concept album and it opens with “A Crack In The Eyes” in an ambient sound that brings the music in crescendo with a continuous stream of beats: soft musical riffs and howling guitar solo combined with dynamic drumming.
By this album Arena has suddenly and concretely changed their style: after those very melodic, typically “Neo”-kind guitar and keyboard solos the band went into metallic vein of musical performance with sound occupation of distorted guitars, exploiting drum-bar and more accompaniment-sort (than soloing) keyboards.

It's essentially a covers album, with great versions of tracks by The Beatles, The Who, Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Free, and this pleasant version of the track originally written by Steve Winwood when he was a member of English supergroup, Blind Faith, back in 1969.
Styx fans might be a tad surprised and disappointed that this is a covers album, but the choice of songs is great and the band are sounding as good as they ever did, with vocalists/guitarists Tommy Shaw and James Young, who, together with bass guitarist Chuck Panozzo, is the only remaining original member.
Tonton Macoute's sole album, released on the highly collectible RCA Neon label in 1971, is one of the best examples of the type of classy jazz/rock that was coming out of the UK in the early 70's.

Arts Unlimited | Arts reviews | Muse, Wembley Arena
Their roots are in indie music, as proven by an audience heavy on teenage girls who seem to have applied their eye make-up in the dark while wearing mittens.
But their ambition was always overarching: by their second album, 2001's Origins of Symmetry, Muse were gamely attempting to cross-breed post-Radiohead guitar rock with the cod-operatic pretensions of mid-70s Queen.
On one level, what Muse do is entirely ridiculous, but it is pulled off with such panache and wilful disregard for commonly held notions of taste and subtlety that it is impossible not to be impressed.

I would definitely categorize this album as Arena Rock, with possible comparisons to Styx, Foreigner and the like, but with (neo-)proggier leanings and a guitarist who obviously likes Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd)'s guitar style, since his solos are frequently in the same vein (they actually do a cover of PF's "Time" on this album...
Parsons later remixed the album for CD re-release, but showed very good taste by limiting this process to a couple of added solos and synthesizer textures, which fit seamlessly in with the original recordings, and the restoration of Orson Welles' Poe recitations, recorded during the album sessions but omitted from the original mix.
The album's songs deal with various aspects of women, but mainly in terms of male stereotypes and pop cliches, either as idealised objects of desire or unfaithful tormentresses of the fragile male ego.

The original version of "Arena" was good, but I always felt like it was lacking something.
The addition of the songs "Rio" and "Girls on Film" for this remastered version was a great move, as those are not only two of the band's biggest hits from the early '80s, but they're also two of their most energetic live songs.

The central theme of the album is the question of 'beliefs' - the album has a concept, although it's not in the strictest sense a concept album".
On the other hand, Arena has always been, and still is, about 'songs', so there are beautiful melodies and great sing-a-long parts as well.

 Arena by Asia CD
Asia's 1996 release, ARENA, is, confusingly, a non-live studio album.
The only original Asia member appearing here is keyboardist Geoff Downes, who is joined by drummer Michael Sturgis, main guitarist/singer/bassist John Payne, and a host of other guitarists including Elliot Randall, Tomoyasu Hotei, and Aziz Abraham.
ARENA boasts another fine set of songs in the pop/prog-rock mold, most notably the melodic airiness of "Heaven" and "Two Sides of the Moon," plus the fast-paced rocker "The Day Before the War." With ARENA, Asia showed that prog-rock was still alive and well in the fickle rock world of the 1990's
