The genesis of this ambient instrumental project took place at a small Hollywood speakeasy, where Bauhaus and Love and Rockets founder, David J (Haskins), was in residence with his seminal Cabaret Oscuro.
The music was conceived as a soundtrack for an imaginary movie, set in a place where the mist rises from dreaming lakes as fireflies trace out a phosphorescent arabesque amongst the drifting reeds and children live out their imaginary lives, intoxicated by the pull of a waxing harvest moon.
This work is the first part of a triptych, the forthcoming editions to appear on The Arena Rock Recording Company over the next three years.

Arena rock is a loosely defined style of rock music, often also called anthem rock, and the style of music is closely associated with "corporate rock".
Arena rock is usually medium hard rock, but lacks the edginess or rage often inherent in heavy metal.
While many groups performed in massive venues while on tour, the term "arena rock" usually refers to 1970s and 1980s hard rock groups that occupied a middle ground between the heavy metal sound and the softer adult oriented sounds of country rock and the singer-songwriters of the decade.

Arena is not only the best Asia album ever, it is possibly one of the best albums ever released by any progressive rock band.
Arena, Two Sides Of The Moon, Heaven, Words, Falling, Day Before The Word, Tell Me Why, U Bring Me Down, Turn It Around are all songs with musical diversity, quality sound, craftsmanship, and feeling.
It's a shame that the band can't capture the success of their first album in the US anymore (they seem to be really big in Japan), but it doesn't matter.

I would definitely categorize this album as Arena Rock, with possible comparisons to Styx, Foreigner and the like, but with (neo-)proggier leanings and a guitarist who obviously likes Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd)'s guitar style, since his solos are frequently in the same vein (they actually do a cover of PF's "Time" on this album...
American Rock band with some progressive tendencies, most noteworthy for lead singer David Surkamp, who I once saw described as sounding a little like "Marty Balin on helium," which seems to be a fairly accurate asessment.
While short of spectacular, Ebondazzar is quite a novel take on the Berlin-school electronic rock that unfortunately has got buried under a pile of lesser acts in the IC back catalogue and the history of Australian rock.
