They run for ~800km Northwards in this region and converge with the delta of Ares Vallis at the boundary to Chryse Planitia ~200km North of the region at 18°N 36°W. The Uzboi-Ladon-Margaritifer outflow system to the South is thought to source this region along with the Valles Marineris. MAPPING CHANNELS AND VALLEYS IN MARGARITIFER SINUS, MARS Hence, formation of Ares Vallis was the final stage in a long history of repeated water transport, storage, and discharge in the Margaritifer Sinus region. Discharge into Margaritifer Basin led to ponding, subsurface infiltration, and storage of water that was released during subsequent collapse of Margaritifer and Iani Chaos in the early-to-mid Hesperian, thereby contributing to incisement of Ares Vallis.
