Ilfov County - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The county has a large surface covered with forests and also due to its lakes, it is a frequent week-end and holiday destinations for the inhabitants of Bucharest.
Most of today's Ilfov County used to be covered by Codrii Vlăsiei, a thick forest, but there were several Dacian settlements, most important being Argedava, on the right bank of the Argeş River in what is now Popeşti, which was the capital of king Burebista.
The thick forests were useful for retreat during the migration age because they were not easy to cross on horseback.

He unifies the Thracian population from Hercinica (today's Moravia in the West, to the Bug in the East and from Northern Carpathians to Southern Dionysopolis, choosing his capital (called Argedava or Sargedava) near Costesti (the Orastie hills - see Dacian Fortresses of the Orastie Mountains).
The real name of Burebista was lost, but the fame was evoqued by the Greek writers, known under the name of Bu-ere-bu-ist-as ("the one that is not").

 2. THE DACIAN KINGDOM (András Mócsy)
The same inscription mentions that Dionysiopolis sent a delegation to the father of a Getae ruler, and that the latter met the envoys at Argedava.
Due to the fragmented state of the text, it cannot be ascertained whether this ruler in Argedava was Burebista's father.
Nor is it evident that Argedava is the same place as Arcidava (Varadia), situated on the eastern fringe of the Banat.

judetul Giurgiu-judetele Romaniei   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)

THE REAL ROMANIAN EARLY HISTORY (II)
For, Emperor Burebista had finally succeeded to merge tribes of the same descent into a vast kingdom, which would become highly respected around both Central and Eastern Europe, extending its boundaries from the Hercynica Forest (which is Moravia of our days) to the Bug, and from the Northern Carpathians to the Southern Balcic (then, Dyonisopolis).
The King's main residence, called ARGEDAVA, or at times SAGEDAVA, was located somewhere around the Costesti area (today's Orastie Hills).
Altogether with Burebista, Deceneus quickly succeeded in uniting all Thracians, not only militarily but also spiritually.
