Argenteuil County is an historic county in southwestern Quebec, Canada.
Argenteuil was bounded on the north by Terrebonne County, on the east by Deux-Montagnes County, on the west by Papineau County and on the south by the United Counties of Prescott and Russell in Ontario.
In the early 1980s the Quebec's counties were abolished and most of Argenteuil County became the Argenteuil Regional County Municipality.

The earliest instance of the name Crawford in Ireland, that I have found, is 1582.
My great, great grandfather John Crawford was born in Longford County, Ireland 1788; therefore my relatives must have migrated sometime in that 200 year interval.

Something to keep in mind in wandering Quebec cemeteries: In Quebec, cemetery plots are by law not purchased, but leased for 99 years.
I have no idea what this means in terms of burial records, but would hope these "transfers" are recorded and the early burials remain documented.
In Quebec, the civil registers of births (baptisms), marriages and deaths (burials), which date from the 1641, were duplicate copies of the church registers.

Three other sons of James we believed died as children in Gore prior to 1865 as they are not mentioned in the migration to Compton Township in 1865, they are James Jr #1, Thomas and James Jr #2.
There is mention by John, James eldest son, who lived on Parker Hill, Randboro, Quebec of being one of thirteen children, if this is true there is one child that we do not know of, he or she has been lost in time.

The Museum is situated on the North Bank of the Ottawa River, at Carillon, on Highway 344, some 80 km from Montreal and about 110 km rom Ottawa.
The historical building was generously donated by Mr Felix Hungerbuhler in 1937 to the Historical Society of Argenteuil to be converted into a museum, which was achieved with the assistance of the federal government.
