The National Congress (Spanish: Congreso de la Nación Argentina) is the legislative branch of the government of Argentina.
As time went by, the building proved too small for its purpose, and in 1974 the construction of the Edificio Anexo, which now holds the deputies' offices, was started.
In front of the the building lies the Square of the two Congresses (Spanish: Plaza de los Dos Congresos) which is a popular site for sightseeing, as well as a preferred location for protestors and those who want to voice their opinion about congress.

The Argentine War of Independence was fought from 1814 to 1816 by Argentine forces under José de San Martín against realista forces loyal to the Spanish crown.
On July 9, 1816, an assembly met in San Miguel de Tucumán, declaring full independence with provisions for a national constitution.
In response, royalist Spanish troops (realistas) tried to suppress these ideas, resulting in military campaigns, led on the Argentine side by General José de San Martín between 1813 and 1816.

The bill that began to be discussed by the lower house of Congress Wednesday would create a National Programme on Sexual Health and Responsible Procreation, and pave the way for "non- abortive, reversible and temporary" birth-control methods to be made available free of charge at public and private health centres.
The Catholic Church is opposed to the use of the IUD, which it considers an "abortive" method of birth control, arguing that the device impedes the implantation of the embryo in the wall of the uterus.
However, the Argentine Society of Fertility and Sterility pointed out that the most recent studies indicate that the copper in the IUD affects the movement of sperm, thus preventing fertilisation of the egg.
