In the argolid, in the Southern Peloponnese, water (mis-) management is responsible for the spectre of rapid and total land degradation by salinisation in the very near future, but for the moment this has only attained small valleys and the remainder is green.
The fieldwork for this study is done in the Argolid (GR), Epirus (GR), the Department of the Lozère and adjacent areas (F), the Empordà (ES), the Benidorm area (ES) and the Mondego basin (PT).
As the existing farmers have been forced to abandon their traditional methods in favour of this high-risk, high-yield monocrop system (which is much less resistant to the ups and downs of the world economy and the hydrology), the overall resilience of agriculture in the Argolid has been heavily reduced.

t the South-eastern edge of the plain of Argolid, near the springs of the Erasinos river (nowadays 'Kephalari') and on the main arterial road which in antiquity lead from Argos to Tegea and the rest of Arcadia and Kynouria, there is a small fort at present known as the 'pyramid' of Hellenikon.
According to evidence from the excavations and the typical features of the structure which dates to the end of the 4th century B.C. and not to the prehistoric period, as some scientists have been recently willing to demonstrate.
The main entrance of the monument is situated at its eastern side, that is the side which is turned towards the bay of the Argolid.
