  Licensing FAQ
Royalties generated from ARIA licences are collected and then distributed to copyright owners (usually the record company) based on the reports that licensees supply.
ARIA grants licences for the reproduction of the sound recording, where it is authorised to do so, and distributes the fees it collects among individual sound recording copyright holders (usually the record company/label);
ARIA is only able to licence you the right to reproduce a sound recording in its original state and not the right to alter it in any way.

 Aria
Aria is essentially 10 unrelated segments done by different directors, and has the lack of continuity that usually occurs when this is attempted.
If you have to have plot and pace, this is not your film, but if you can open your ears and eyes, and let the images and sounds wash over you, you might enjoy it.
Films under five are generally awful even if you like that kind of film, equivalent to about one and a half stars from the critics or less, depending on just how far below five the rating is.

Aria   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The film is a labor of love by a British producer named Don Boyd, who convinced 10 different directors to interpret 10 famous arias in any style they chose.
But the film is fun almost as a satire of itself, as a project in which the tension between the directors and their material allows them to poke a little fun at their own styles and obsessions.
For me, "Aria" was notable for one thing--Bridget Fonda's acting debut (in which she is completely nude).

The film was invited to the important European festival in Locarno, a festival with tradition mainly oriented to promoting young authors.

The Nihon Review » ARIA The Natural
ARIA The Natural does this outstandingly well; we learn an amazing amount about these characters from watching how they grow with each of life’s lessons and how they come to appreciate their relationships, their city, their job and their life.
Part of it, I’d imagine, is due to the unique way the characters interact with their setting (one which I still think is among the most glorious in anime), but it cannot be understated how astonishing it is that there can be so much innovation in a series where there really should be none.
And while ARIA The Natural is undoubtedly entrenched within the slice-of-life genre, it’s one of the best in it, and highly recommended to those with even a slight inclination towards character-focused series, though watching the first series beforehand is a must.

ARIA PRESENTS THE 2006 ARIA HALL OF FAME
ARIA Chairman Denis Handlin said, “ARIA is delighted to stage the 2006 Hall of Fame event to honour iconic local artists that have made such a significant and enduring contribution to our music culture.
Off the back of that success, ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) is proud to announce the return of this dedicated event which see the Australian music community pay tribute to those artists who have contributed to this country’s music landscape.
In a male-dominated world of rock, Amphlett’s role as part of DIVINYLS was a thrilling phenomenon; here was a woman who expressed both violence and vulnerability in her music, and whose ardent, sexually charged performances took audiences to new heights, and who became an icon and an inspiration to women in rock around the world.

 Aria review by S. Burridge
This collection of operatic arias as interpreted by nine different directors (ten if you count Bill Bryden's linking story) was producer Don Boyd's personal project.
But it is Ken Russell, who has always been adept at this sort of thing, where ARIA really coalesces in terms of concept, visuals, and music.
Film is unlikely to produce imitators, so it may well remain one of a kind.

A very unusual film from 1987, Aria takes ten notable directors, allows them to choose pieces of opera and then create short films set to that music.
Aria appears in an aspect ratio of approximately 1.78:1 on this single-sided, single-layered DVD; the image has been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.
Nonetheless, the soundtrack to Aria remained positive for this film.

Round is a film about how we go around in circles in life and how one man tries to break that chain.
I love the Bach; it lifts the film out of it’s restrictive context of mundane banality, and gives it more air; the smallness of life is given the dignity of a wider view, a kind of fragile serenity.

 Opera
Traditional opera consists of two modes of singing: recitative, the dialogue and plot-driving passages often sung in a non-melodic style characteristic of opera, and aria, during which the movement of the plot often stops and the music and the singers focus on one topic using full voice.
The pit orchestra that underscored the dramatic action in 19th century melodrama survives in film scores, and spectacular films incorporating serious music are the direct heirs of melodrama and in their "special effects" both the heirs and the competitors of grand opera.
Wagner pioneered a through-composed style, in which recitative and aria blend into one another and are constantly accompanied by the orchestra.

A Bloody Aria (2006) Movie Review | BeyondHollywood.com | Asian, Foreign, Horror, and Genre Movie Reviews and News
The film is chiefly concerned with themes of bullying, which it actually deals with in quite a subtle manner and on several levels, dealing with both the aggressors and victims in a fluid way which eschews stereotyping or easy answers.
Although never bloody or explicit, the film is sadistic, intense and visceral, especially towards the end, and there is an air of threat throughout, with the viewer constantly expecting outbursts of violence.
At times the film does feel rather like a play, given its small cast of characters and limited locations, though this certainly works in its favour, as the minimalist approach allows the director to focus in truly discomforting fashion, never giving the viewer a moment of respite from the increasingly unpleasant events.

OFFOFFOFF film review EMPATHY movie by Amie Siegel with Gigi Buffington, Dr. David Solomon, Aria Knee, Maria Silverman ...
The film is most engaging at its most conventional — in its interviews with practicing psychoanalysts, old white men who uniformly decorate their offices with wooden furniture, leather chairs, and toppling piles of academic books.
But the film only approaches honesty when, toward its end, the roles are again reversed and Amie Siegel, the film's director and interviewer, is asked her motivations for choosing psychoanalysis as the film's subject.
Siegel's intelligence is consistently apparent, but she needs a more focused film for it to shine, in which ideas accumulate rather than announce themselves and dissipate.

What ARIA proves is that the top composers and stagers of opera today (Philip Glass and Robert Wilson, John Adams and Peter Sellars) are taking far greater steps in stretching the boundaries of their medium than this collection of supposedly top filmmakers are in stretching theirs.

 DVD Savant Review: Aria
Aria is a problem in that it has some interesting material, but no knockout chapters.
Since there's no explanation of the intent of the director, or information about the original concept or context of the arias being reinterpreted, only opera congnoscenti are going to relate to the relevance, or lack of same, for each visual idea.
The two common denominators are the music, which is so easy on the ears that Aria is rather pleasant to watch, even if your mind drifts from the screen, and the nudity, which is used as a general substitute for anything sensual.

Slant Magazine Film Review: A Bloody Aria
Bloody Aria opens with a shot of a hawk circling the clear blue sky as if searching for prey, set to the angelic score of the film's titular melody.
So too does the film teasingly toy with the audience via its surrogate characters, baiting them with immoral opportunities and chances of fate only to see how well they hold up (physically, emotionally, morally) through it all.
The film's slowly accruing tension initially seems to be foreshadowing some Funny Games, but the outcome is more comparable to a drawn-out, subdued case of Deliverance, with roughneck codes of honor clashing with urban pacifism in a series of horrific and unpredictable conflicts the film treats with equal levels of revulsion and bemusement.
