The next day he wrote back shedding some light: “The name Arik is a variation of the name Aryeh, which is Hebrew for a lion.” The name also appears as Arieh, which is the name of an officer of king Pekahiah in the Old Testament.
Arik Boke was youngest son of Genghis’ son Tolui, and a brother of the better-known Kublai Khan who was the founder of China’s Yuan Dynasty, which lasted from 1271 to 1368.
Arik was a rival of Kublai’s, and had been the commander of the Mongol homeland while Kublai was campaigning in China.

The Globalist | Global History -- The Women Who Ruled the Mongol Empire
Whereas Genghis Khan himself had produced sons who were relatively weak, prone to drink and self-centered, Sorkhokhtani had produced and trained four sons destined to make a major mark on history.
In the coming years, Mongke, Arik Boke and Khubilai would all carry the title of Great Khan, for various lengths of time, and her other son, Hulegu, became the conqueror of Baghdad and founded a new dynasty of the Persian Ilkhante.
So great was her achievement that a Persian chronicler wrote that if history produced only one more woman equal to Sorhokhtani, then surely women would have to be judged as the superior sex.

Tolui fathered Möngke, Kubilai, Arik Boke, and Hulegu, and thus was the progenitor of the last of the great Khans, the Yuan Dynasty of China, and of the Il Khans.
However, it was a rivalry from among Tolui's own sons--that of Kubilai and Arik Boke--that fragmented the power of the empire and set the western khanates against each other in the early 1260s.

Manchu Mongol Empire: The dispute with the Ice tribes on the northern frontier flared up into open war – the Manchu dispatched two armies; 20,000 men under Vachir Ulagan to punish the Humahae, and Arik Boke with 42,000 to annihilate the Turanans.
Though Tun Wei had ordered Boke and Ulagan to “leave not one tribesman alive” their campaigns were spent uselessly struggling through icy winds, snowstorms, deadly frost and mile after mile of empty forest.
The Ice tribesmen had simply withdrawn into the fastness of the north upon the Sunlander advance.
