Arilou - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Arilou were considered the race human encounter stories referred to as the little grey or green men.
Arilou (short for Arilou Lalee'lay) are a fictional race of beings featured in the sci-fi Star Control computer game series who belong to the Alliance of Free Stars.
Arilou also supposedly are familiar with something called the Nnngn, that they claim to have captured and let free again.

The Arilou, like fellow pan-dimensionals the Orz, however, are somewhat uncommunicative on the subject.
The Arilou attitude toward humans is paternal, and they often refer to humans as their children.
Their connection with humans extends far deeper into the species' past, and the Arilou have suggested that they knew "the first human." This suggests that, like the Yehat with the Shofixti, the strange xenoforms are responsible for uplifting human culture into sentience.

 Arilou Lalee'lay - Ultronomicon
The Arilou gave many hints that their degree of knowledge and control was far greater than they let The Captain know, and many suspect that they engineered this wreck as well as other events within the war on humanity's behalf, including their fortuitous meeting with The Captain in the first place.
The Arilou's purpose in all of this is unclear, but the Arilou claim to see their relationship to Humans as analogous to that between a parent and a child.
The Arilou seem to imply that this is a direct result of their not protecting the Androsynth; when they mention the Androsynth at all, it is to use them as a stern example and warning of the perils of meddling with interdimensional forces and entities.

Arilou - Open Encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
The Arilou bring to mind typical alien images from the 20th century.
The Arilou are short humanoids with glowing eyes, nostrils with no nose, and a diminutive mouth unused for communication.
Their connection with humans extends far deeper into the species' past, and the Arilou have said that they knew "the first human." This suggests that, like the Yehat with the Shofixti, the strange xenoforms are responsible for uplifting human culture into sentience.

 Talk:Arilou Lalee'lay - Ultronomicon
Extrapolating from this that the Orz are some sort of far-future rival to the Arilou, or an alternate-universe version of a different humanity, or a far-future version of the Androsynth, or whatever the writer of "Theories" was trying to say is really unwarranted.
"Arilou La'Leelay" is explicitly stated in the game to be a Celtic name, given to the Arilou by the "children of the Celts".
The Arilou homeworld appears to be a water world, so perhaps the line in question could be changed to reflect that.

Of Stars and Control(Part 1) by quasiballs (Automobiles) | LjSEEK.COM
Clarification: The Arilou are among the oldest extant races, one of the two fully sentient, fully aware creatures to have survived an Eternal One feeding.
As such, the Arilou were advised that the Precursors had explained their dire situation, and that the humans were no longer interested in continuing such a one sided relationship.
If the Arilou as a whole have accepted our descision, then they do so at the cost of their own survival, as it is much too late to weather the genetic maelstrom awaiting them.

The Arilou may have visited Earth often in the past, especially in the period between 1950 and the year 2000, during which they are suspected of having been responsible for flying saucer sightings, cropfield circles, alien abductions and similar prankish behavior.
The Arilou visited Earth frequently in the last half of 20th century, when they were responsible for many flying-saucer sightings, crop circles, alien abductions, and similar prankish behavior.
While the Arilou do not speak (they communicate through a direct telepathic link), they have mouths, which are almost always stretched in a wide, innocent-looking smile.

The Arilou seem to enjoy prankishness, a trait shared by their neighbors, the Umgah.
It may well be that the Arilou's connection with humans extends far deeper into our species' past, and that, like the Yehat, the strange xenoforms are indirectly responsible for uplifting our culture into sentience.

The Arilou quickly turned on their creators, driving them away from the planet and using their enhanced telepathic abilities and Precursor technology to wipe all knowledge of them from the Androsynth memory.
The arrival of members of other races in the 13th and 20th centuries caused the Arilou to become more circumspect, but they did not cease their experiments until after Second Impact, when a quarantine was placed on the world for 50 years.

However, the Arilou's short range and small crew make it an ideal candidate for kamikaze-- just make sure it doesn't hyperspace away at the last second.
The Arilou and the Pkunk, along with the everpresent ZoqFotPik and Umgah, with their short-range weapons and small crew, will be most vulnerable to crew loss, although the former three may get to the lost crewmen before you do.

Much criticized as it's been, it's still one of my favorites from the original soundtrack, and I think it helped create a feeling that the Arilou had a playful, childlike side, along with their nature as a serene elder race.
I agree with others who think that a final version of the soundtrack should have this mix for Falayalirafali but something more upbeat for ship encounters.
Agreed with below, too -- a more upbeat, "jumpier" tune for Arilou ships would be really neat, especially if it were a retread of this melody.
