Topic: Aristocratic heirarchy

Academic Research Papers | EUROPEAN FICTION
The author's own attitudes toward politics, western values, and the spirit of the 1860's are studied, and some of the intricacies of the plot are examined as psychological clues to the generation conflict in the Russia of that period.
Background in the philosophical currents of the day, from Hegel to anarchism, is related to the characters in the novel, who are viewed as types in the heirarchy of Russian feudal society.
The development of Dimitri's self-awareness and recognition of guilt in the death of his father is looked at in considerable detail; his change from an orgy-going playboy to a moral being is analyzed.

When I say the aristocrats are the enemy, I don’t mean to imply that they are non-human and not part of the ‘we’.
This is what I would call an ‘aristocratic value’ - and with such values, the “we” of which we think we’re all a part is reserved for a much smaller class of people - those of proper mettle, those of the correct ’substance’.
I’m implicitly attracted to Marx’s anarchist tendencies, however, while his structural predictions for the course of capitalism ring true, he didn’t anticipate many of these points you mention, all of which undermine the notion that ‘the end of history’ can be achieved in a remotely egalitarian manner.

 Empress Zewditu, Queen of Kings
She was clearly a supporter of conservative causes, but raised as she was among the Imperial and aristocratic women of that era, unlike her step-mother Taitu, she was not one to intrude willingly into the power games of men.
However, conservative elements within he nobility stressed that it was not right that she was not even consulted regularly by the Crown Prince, and it would be preferable for Ras Taffari to hold back on his reforms until he himself was on the throne.
This caused deep resentments among the many nobles and aristocrats who believed that ruling Ethiopia was their birthright and didn't like to see some upstart commoners sit in positions of power over them.

Romans, too, both under the Republic and under the Empire, split into opposing groups of plebeians or equestrians, landed and landless, into the advocates of leniency for or annihilation of the Carthaginians, into the followers of Sulla or of Marius, of Caesar or Pompey.
Aristocratic residues in social and political life and limitations on the suffrage retarded the emerging pattern.

My problem with corporate culture is that it loses sight of the integrated nature of human experience and forgets the ends for the means, and has little discrimination between the rigors of practical commercial and physical necessity and the administrative stepping-on-heads regimentations typical of structures of control.
These problems are not unique to corporate life- university administrations, public school systems, and government offices come to mind- but there is still an awful sterility to today's business world, best symbolized by its terribly ugly, faceless, box-like architecture built to make ugly, faceless, box-like souls.
