	Arizona Territory (CSA) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Arizona Territory of the Confederate States of America was an organized territory of the Confederacy that existed between 1861 and 1865.
		The conventions subsequently established a provisional territorial government for the Confederate "Territory of Arizona." Owings was again elected as Provisional Governor and Granville Henderson Oury was chosen as a delegate to petition for the territory's admission into the Confederacy.
		The proposal to organize the territory was passed by the Confederate Congress in early 1862 and proclaimed by President Jefferson Davis on February 14, 1862.

		The Territorial Government at Santa Fe was dominated by the northern counties, where most of the population lay, and the people of the southern region (which was at the time called "Gadsdonia," or more commonly, "Arizona") came to feel that their interests were being ignored.
		The Tucson Convention ratified the proceedings of the Mesilla Convention, and elected provisional officers for the new Confederate Territory.

		Located far from the territorial capitol, Santa Fe, Arizonans felt isolated and had little in common with the hispanic population along the northern stretches of the Rio Grande and the white settlers that had migrated along the Santa Fe Trail from Missouri and points east and north.

		Although we do have and are operating our own government of the CSA which never surrendered, we are under occupation and thus we must therefore obey the constitutional statues of the United States and their satellite states, while we are still subject to their control.
		While President Davis had been asked to surrender the C.S.A. Government and Pledge Allegiance to the Federal Union, he consistently refused as he knew that his action in obedience to such requests would have constituted surrender of the Nation of which he was President.
		Several other CSA Generals were still in the field fighting at that time and President Davis was attempting to move his cabinet to Georgia and then on to Texas where it was thought the South could hold out for a while and perhaps strike back.

		He was part of the small Confederate force that moved into Southern Arizona from Mesilla, and was present at the Confederate occupation of Tucson, but was not involved in either of the skirmishes between Union and Confederate forces in Arizona.
